Alexander Isak watched on from the sideline as Liverpool gave his old team a pummeling at Anfield.

The bad blood between the two sides after the summer’s saga hasn’t been forgotten.

Liverpool snatched up Newcastle’s star striker, and the player they wanted to replace him.

Hugo Ekitike was the star for Liverpool, scoring a first-half brace to put the tie back in the home side’s hands.

When Anthony Gordon drew first blood after 36 minutes, there was somewhat of a panicked atmosphere around Anfield.

And Isak felt the same. After the goal went in, the replay on TNT Sports showed the former Newcastle man laugh to the person next to him while applauding Ekitike’s efforts.

As much as the camaraderie is evident between the two new signings, they will be pitted against each other in the not-so-distant future.

Isak may be the record British signing, but it’s Ekitike who has made himself indispensable to Arne Slot.

It will be interesting to see how that situation is handled, but you can be sure that Ekitike’s stance will be that he’s the main man. Who woul blame him in current form?

There has been talk of a possible switch to a front two to get the most out of both, and with Mo Salah continuing to underwhelm against Newcastle, it might be the best way forward for Slot with everyone healthy.
