Another loss this weekend has put Liverpool back under the microscope, and Jamie Redknapp makes a rather concerning point.
Liverpool’s unbeaten run had to come to an end at some point, but the travelling fans will have left the stadium with a sour taste in their mouths.
It’s a game the Reds should have won. The kind they would have done last season.

The defeat to Bournemouth is just more evidence of Redknapp’s theory.
Jamie Redknapp on what Liverpool are missing from last season
It’s fair to say Liverpool walked the league last term, stretching a lead at the top of the table and maintaining it for months.
Many of their wins came from late decisive moments — the opposite of this season — and a champion’s mentality that separated them from the rest of the pack.
It’s missing this term.

As Redknapp explained on Sky Sports: “I think it tells you a lot about where Liverpool are this season. They’re incredibly fragile. They haven’t got that tenacity, that ability.
“They’re a shadow of the team from last year that would somehow claw back victories and had that never-say-die attitude. But it’s been very difficult for them this season. It’s been a real struggle, and I think this game pretty much encapsulated that.”
This did feel like a standard Liverpool performance in 2025-26.
Arne Slot posed a massive challenge with Liverpool
It’s not so straightforward to fix an issue with mentality.
Tactics can take you so far, but conceding late is less about how Arne Slot is setting Liverpool up and more about a lack of confidence and lapses in concentration.
Slot is backing Liverpool for a top-four finish. Where do you think the Reds will end 25/26?
That makes fixing the problems that bit more difficult.
As Redknapp points out, something is missing from Liverpool compared to their title run last season.
Just how Slot addresses that is hard to say, but with Liverpool in contact with Xabi Alonso, he would want to figure it out quickly.
