Liverpool failed to hold out for a point and conceded a late goal in their meeting with Bournemouth.

It was another really disappointing league outing from the Reds, who have now dropped points to the Cherries, Leeds United, Fulham, Arsenal and Burnley in 2025.

Mohamed Salah made fans ‘sad’ with his performance on the night, but the backline was a serious issue across the 90 minutes.

Who was Liverpool’s worst player as they fell to a pathetic loss against Bournemouth?

Virgil van Dijk angered fans after he made an error leading to the opening goal following a spell of Liverpool dominance.

There was then frustration around Joe Gomez’s injury, which saw Bournemouth add a second while Wataru Endo was getting ready to replace the centre-back.

Liverpool defending vs Bournemouth leaves John Aldridge stunned

In the end, just when Dominik Szoboszlai thought he’d saved his side a point and made it 14 games unbeaten, the Reds conceded a scrappy goal in the 94th minute to lose.

Now, former Liverpool man John Aldridge, who won the FA Cup during his time at the club, has taken to X/Twitter to share his thoughts.

And Aldridge could not believe what he witnessed from a defensive perspective from his former side.

He said: “Defensively, I couldn’t believe what I saw at times! Don’t need to point fingers, we all seen it.

“Shows our deficiencies at CH!!! Joe’s injury-prone, Konate is Konate, we need a CH who can just defend and pass the ball to any of the other 3 defenders. PS and see results out. Top 4/5 will be tight.”

Liverpool set unwanted record vs Bournemouth

Liverpool have now conceded 32 goals in the Premier League this season, the joint-worst record in top-12.

Furthermore, they have, with 16 matches still left to play, set an unwanted club record.

Against Bournemouth, Liverpool conceded a 90th-minute winning goal for the third time in the Premier League in 2025/26, which is the most times they have done so in a single season since the competition began in 1992.

Slot has tried his best to shore up the backline after that run of nine defeats from 12 in 2025, but the cracks were well and truly exposed against Bournemouth.
