Liverpool will be aiming to keep their unbeaten run going when they clash with AFC Bournemouth this weekend.
The Reds secured a huge 3-0 win over Marseille in the Champions League on Wednesday, though the result was not the main positive coming out of the clash.
Liverpool haven’t lost since November, but fans have been concerned about how Arne Slot’s team were playing.
Who’s your XI to beat Bournemouth on Saturday?
Does Salah start again?
However, Slot changed his system in France, and it led to one of the best performances we have seen this term.
Among those to star at the Orange Velodrome was former Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerkez.
Milos Kerkez shines at Liverpool after Alan Shearer claim
Liverpool fans praised Kerkez for his efforts, while Stephen Warnock called the defender ‘superb’.
The Hungarian has been a standout performer in Slot’s eleven for the last couple of months.
But that was not the case when he first arrived in the 2025 summer transfer window.
Alan Pardew claimed Kerkez had been found out after leaving Bournemouth for Liverpool.
Elsewhere, speaking in September 2025, Alan Shearer said the left-back was not the same player who arrived from the Cherries.
Acting as a pundit on NBC Sports Soccer [via Goal], he said: “At the minute, we are not seeing the same player, Kerkez, particularly on the left-hand side, as we saw at Bournemouth. He was free-flowing. He had the licence to go and roam and get forward. It seems as if he’s caught in two minds, whether he’s going to go or whether he’s going to stay and help protect [Virgil] Van Dijk and [Ibrahima] Konate.”
Nearly four months on, Kerkez has proven critics wrong and has finally shown why Liverpool were so keen to pry him away from the Vitality.
Will Liverpool get their first Premier League win of 2026 vs Bournemouth?
One man key to Milos Kerkez’s rise at Liverpool
Reds fans have done a U-turn on Kerkez after previously suggesting he was the worst signing of the summer.
The player himself has also explained why he’s now so much better than he was at the start of the campaign.
In early 2025/26, Kerkez was largely playing behind Cody Gakpo, who prefers to cut inside and shoot rather than link up with the left-back out wide.
However, Florian Wirtz’s connection with the defender led to a big uptick in form, as he has already explained.
He said: “At the moment, there’s a good connection between me and Flo [Wirtz]. We’re playing well, and I hope it keeps going.
“I like [the change in shape] because I have more freedom with Flo. We are moving, passing and playing a lot of one-twos. I felt like I was in the opposition box a lot more and crossing.”
