Liverpool fans do U-turn on ‘worst signings of the season’ after impressive Arsenal showings

Liverpool supporters have been forced to reckon with the fact that their summer transfer window may have been full of expensive mistakes in 2025.

The Reds spent almost half a billion pounds on some incredible talent, but have yet to see it really pay off at the halfway stage of the season.

Back in November, Rousing The Kop asked Liverpool fans to vote for their best – and worst – signings of the summer on our new TalkingPoints platform.

The results made good reading for Hugo Ekitike, who came out on top with a whopping 77% of the vote, but far worse for full-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez who made up the bottom two.

With only 1.73% of the joint vote, Frimpong and Kerkez were last and second-last respectively. But while they may have faced a difficult start to life at Liverpool, the pair have since begun to come into their own. And after they starred in the Reds’ 0-0 draw with Arsenal on Thursday, fans are now beginning to change their minds.

While Kerkez has steadily been getting better at Liverpool, the festive period has also brought out the best in Frimpong.

That continued on Thursday, when the Dutchman was Liverpool’s most potent attacking threat during the Arsenal clash.

Following the game, RTK asked readers to vote for their star performer against Arsenal, with Kerkez and Frimpong the two leading lights.

With more than 720 votes cast at the time of writing, the full-back duo have close to 200 votes each.

Kerkez is currently leading the way, securing 27% of the total vote, with Frimpong close behind on 25%. Conor Bradley (20%) and Florian Wirtz (15%) are also in the running, but it is clear that in one of their biggest games of the season, Liverpool’s previously maligned new additions stepped up to the plate.

Liverpool’s summer signings will all come good

Liverpool badly needed both Frimpong and Kerkez to deliver at the Emirates Stadium. The former was a key out-ball in the absence of Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak and Mohamed Salah, while the latter had the important task of keeping Bukayo Saka at bay.

That they delivered during such a tough game for Liverpool bodes extremely well for their futures with the club.

After such a lot of debate and analysis over the Reds’ summer business, it is also important to note that Frimpong and Kerkez have not been alone in their improvement. Wirtz has begun to shine recently, while Isak showed glimpses before his injury and surely will again once he recovers.

Giorgi Mamardashvili has not been seen much recently, but the Georgian has already proven his worth, while Giovanni Leoni looks a huge prospect for the future.

Whisper it quietly, but while the £450m outlay is still being used as a stick to beat Liverpool with, their investments are all beginning to pay off. Frimpong and Kerkez are proof of that.
