Whatever about the result against Burnley, it was yet another display of Florian Wirtz magic for Liverpool.
Week after week, we are finding out why Liverpool broke the bank for the young German.
It’s now six goal involvements in his last seven games — the latest, an exquisite strike into the roof of the net to give Anfield something to cheer about on an otherwise dreadful afternoon.
Can anyone take the Man of the Match award off Florian Wirtz vs Burnley?
Who was Liverpool's best player on Saturday?
Wirtz stood out for Liverpool, pulling the strings and controlling the tempo as the Reds looked for a much-needed three points. Despite the team performance letting us down, his explanation of why he’s playing so well gives fans something to be excited about.
Florian Wirtz is getting on the same page as Liverpool teammates
It took him a while to acclimatise to English football, but Wirtz is now looking at home in the Premier League.
After taking quite a while to register his first league goal, he now has three in five games.
Asked for the reason behind his surge in form, he put it all down to his teammates and the importance of building chemistry.
He explained (via Liverpoolfc.com) after the game: “I think I’m feeling good on the pitch. Also the connections with the teammates are really good now – we understand each other better on the pitch and I feel this. It gives me more confidence and makes [it] more fun to play.”
Certainly, Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike are looking well-matched in Liverpool’s attack. Both have proven themselves more than capable in front of goal, and while the present may be bleak, the future with those two leading the way looks bright.
Who will benefit the most from Florian Wirtz’s explosion at Liverpool?
Florian Wirtz has a no-nonsense assessment of the Burnley result
Even before he started putting up the numbers, one thing about Wirtz that was so impressive is how mature he is for his age.
The 22-year-old speaks like a seasoned pro, and one particular post-match response he gave is exactly what you would want from a Liverpool player.

Asked what Liverpool could take from the game, he responded: “Nothing – it feels like a defeat. When we had so many shots and so many on target, I think we had to score more goals.
“But some days are like this – you try everything but in the end it doesn’t go in the goal. We only take one point but I can only say [in] the next game we go again and try to do better.”
