Mohamed Salah is under contract at Liverpool until 2027, but his future is in doubt.
Salah was recently knocked out of the AFCON, losing to Sadio Mane’s Senegal in the semi-finals.
However, the 33-year-old will still miss Liverpool vs Burnley this weekend as he is competing in a third-place play-off.
Unpopular opinion: Peak Sadio Mane was better than peak Mohamed Salah…
People aren't ready for that discussion…
Ahead of his return to Anfield, Slot was asked how he’ll keep Salah happy after the Egyptian hit out at the club following a 3-3 draw with Leeds United last month.
The Dutchman avoided giving a proper response, and it remains to be seen what will happen with the winger in the coming months.
Yan Diomande could replace Mohamed Salah
There has been a suggestion that Salah could leave in the summer, potentially moving to the MLS.
Should that happen, sources believe there is a clear candidate to replace the Liverpool ace.
Conducting a Q&A for The Independent, journalist Miguel Delaney said it’s been put to him that Yan Diomande is the obvious Salah replacement.
He stated: “Every club in Europe wants him [Diomande]. I’m told he won’t move this January but if everything aligns and Salah goes in the summer, it has been put to me that he is an obvious choice. And there will be that emotional pull, as well as the key fact Liverpool compete for the major trophies.
“His camp do feel that he will have many more options after hopefully playing at a World Cup with Ivory Coast.”
Which Bundesliga talent are you taking? Yan Diomande or Said El Mala
Both are on Liverpool's radar 👀
Arne Slot answers when Mohamed Salah will return to Liverpool
As mentioned, Salah won’t be around on Saturday when the Reds aim to make it 12 games unbeaten across all competitions.
However, Liverpool return to Champions League action next Wednesday against Ligue 1 outfit Marseille, and Slot has not ruled out the forward being back for that tie.
As per BBC Sport, he said: “Next week [Salah will return], we are in talks with him and what is expected of him over there and over here. He has an important game on Saturday and then he will be back with us.
“We are talking together about [the Marseille game] now.”
After Marseille, Liverpool travel to Bournemouth for a Premier League meeting on January 24.
