Liverpool have already missed out on one transfer target to a Premier League rival this month.
Antoine Semenyo was wanted by the Reds prior to the winter window opening, with his release clause becoming active on January 1.
However, Semenyo has since signed for Manchester City and scored on his debut in the FA Cup this past weekend.
Is Hugo Ekitike the best summer signing in the Premier League this season?
Elsewhere, Marc Guehi is eyed by Man City and Arsenal after Liverpool tried to sign the centre-back last summer.
Guehi prefers the Reds, but it is thought that City are looking to sign the Englishman now, whereas FSG and co. want to move in the summer.
Now, as well as Man City and Arsenal looking at their targets, the Merseyside outfit are facing competition from Tottenham for another player.
Tottenham want Liverpool target Yan Diomande
Yan Diomande was linked to Liverpool and called an ‘incredible talent’ back in December.
Since then, Diomande has spoken about the Reds, saying he would like to play at Anfield.
However, a post from journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon claims Spurs are in the race and could make a big offer for the teenager.
He wrote: “Tottenham are taking on Liverpool in the race for Red Bull Leipzig wing sensation Yan Diomande.
“Spurs are keen to splash out in this window and could top any offer for the Ivory Coast talent, who is just 19.
“Liverpool have been hovering and see Diomande as a long-term capture, but Tottenham could make the big offer that lands him now.
“Diomande has shot to prominence with his speed and skills and Spurs think a buy would work for them now and be an investment too.
“The auction may take the deal over £40 million, but Tottenham are backing Thomas Frank as they go for it in the market.”
Which Bundesliga talent are you taking? Yan Diomande or Said El Mala
Both are on Liverpool's radar 👀
Yan Diomande’s price tag
While Nixon suggests a transfer fee would need to be over £40m, it may prove to be significantly more.
It has been claimed previously that RB Leipzig would consider offers over €100m for Diomande, which is around £88m.
That would make the player Liverpool’s most expensive January signing of all time should he move.
At present, however, it doesn’t appear as though the current Premier League champions are preparing an offer.
