Liverpool fans absolutely loved something they spotted in the tunnel ahead of Barnsley FA Cup clash

Liverpool fielded a stronger than anticipated starting XI against Barnsley as Arne Slot looked to attack the FA Cup in the third round.

The Reds were soon out of last season’s competition after stumbling away at Plymouth Argyle.

Slot named an especially weak team for that tie at Home Park, and was rewarded with a poor performance and an exit from the cup.

Another home tie, thoughts on the draw?

Having obviously learnt his lesson, the Liverpool head coach left nothing to chance against third-tier Barnsley.

While supporters were a little split over the line-up – some fans wanted more of the Liverpool academy players to be given their chance – many were in agreement of a new piece of training gear the Reds sported before the match.

Liverpool fans swoon over new pink jacket

Liverpool‘s return to being kitted out by Adidas caused plenty of excitement amongst the fanbase over the summer, and the German supplier have not disappointed.

Their latest piece of gear was seen at Anfield ahead of Monday’s match, and while the bright pink was perhaps not to everyone’s taste, there were far more positive reviews than negative on social media site X.

“The pink anthem jacket has been on my wish list since last month,” said one fan. “Where do you get this pink training jacket??” queried another.

“Kinda need that pink Liverpool jacket,” someone else opined, while another supporter joked they missed Dominik Szoboszlai’s early screamer as they were too busy buying the top.

“I’ve been telling myself I don’t need that pink jacket but I absolutely do need it I’m afraid,” was another fan’s verdict, although some did voice some dissent over the colour choice.

Any disappointing omissions? 🤔

“That pink jacket is horrendous,” one fan dismissed, with another claiming: “I love a pink jacket but looks like they found it in lost property with that kit.”

Liverpool fail to convince against Barnsley

There was good reason for Slot choosing to go strong against Barnsley on Monday. With no game until Saturday, the Reds had no reason truly not to.

Given Barnsley’s lowly league position, the line up should have perhaps led to Liverpool delivering a mauling akin to Man City’s 10-1 win over Exeter on Saturday.

But while Szoboszlai’s goal gave them an early lead, the Reds did not look likely to make something similar happen.

Barnsley hit the post early on and, wonder-strike aside- the Tykes were by far the more threatening side in the first-half at Anfield.

Szoboszlai stole the show, but with Liverpool way below their best, the pink jacket was not far behind.
