Marc Guehi could be on his way to Man City after the latest links, but Liverpool have other targets too.
The Reds want a centre-back, everyone knows that, but whether they get one this month or in the summer is yet to be seen.
Guehi was their number one choice, and he might still very well be, but Man City have entered the race due to injuries and could try and sign him in the coming weeks.
How would YOU react if Marc Guehi joins Man City instead of Liverpool in January?
If that is the case and Liverpool miss out on him, it will be a massive blow, but they do have other options which might even be better.
There is one in particular who has caught the eye of many top clubs and was once even compared to William Saliba, with it looking like he would be able to solve a big issue the Reds currently have.
Jeremy Jacquet could solve all of Liverpool’s issues
The Reds have had a big problem at the back this season and their main issues seem to be conceding from set pieces and allowing attackers to run in behind far too easily.
This was evident against Fulham too, with Jamie Carragher describing Ibrahima Konate as ‘lazy’ for not tracking Harry Wilson’s run, with this becoming a bit of a recurring theme, suggesting a new arrival is needed.

If they want this issue dealt with, then they should look no further than Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, a centre-back they have sent scouts to watch.
He would be an excellent option for so many reasons, but the main one is that he has been described as a mix between Saliba and Gabriel, giving Liverpool fans a comparison of just how good he might be.
The Evening Standard once said that he is ‘aggressive, proactive, and unafraid to push high up the pitch to challenge attackers,’ all things that Liverpool have been lacking.
They reported that he consistently records high tackle and interception numbers per 90 minutes, reflecting his defensive intensity and anticipation, and at just 20, he has so much time to grow.
Arsenal even once looked at him too, suggesting they also believe he is a similar profile to their defensive stars, so this one feels a bit of a no-brainer.
Who are you picking as Virgil van Dijk’s centre-back partner next season?
Jeremy Jacquet is the perfect partner for Virgil van Dijk
All of the metrics suggest that Jacquet is very similar to Konate, just better, suggesting that he is perfect should the 26-year-old leave for free this summer.
Negotiations still appear to be at a stalemate right now, with it becoming increasingly likely that he will not sign a new deal, so Liverpool need to secure at least one replacement.
Guehi would be ideal, but Jacquet might be even better, although fans would be desperate to see both join as depth is already an issue.
With Giovanni Leoni coming back this year, having him and Jacquet might just secure their backline for many years to come, with this then one way they can get back to competing with the likes of Arsenal.
