Marc Guehi still remains Liverpool’s top choice as a centre-back option.
The Reds have made their need for a centre-back and admiration for Guehi well known over the last few months, with the Englishman still linked with a move.
He is set to become a free agent in the summer, but there is a chance Liverpool make a move this January to fend off competition.
Who are you picking as Virgil van Dijk’s centre-back partner next season?
However, the latest update on the saga is not good news for the Reds at all, with it looking like they need to act extremely fast if they are serious about signing him.
Man City are now exploring a January move for Marc Guehi
Liverpool and Man City have been rivals off the pitch for many years now, but it looks like they are becoming rivals in the transfer market too.
Not only have Man City looked like they have beaten them to Antoine Semenyo, but they could be about to do the same with Guehi now, with BBC Sport reporting that they are emerging as serious candidates.
They report that due to the injuries of both Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias at the weekend, they are exploring a move for the Crystal Palace captain.
City will check to see how serious the injuries are first before making a decision, suggesting Liverpool still have time to make a move, but the report states that Pep Guardiola’s side have stepped up their interest and a ‘January move should not be discounted’.
How would YOU react if Marc Guehi joins Man City instead of Liverpool in January?
This really is not good news for Liverpool as when Man City want a player, they often get them, and with Palace likely willing sellers for the right offer, the Reds might have to pull their finger out.
Liverpool will be an embarrassment if they let Marc Guehi join Man City
Not only was missing out on him on deadline day embarrassing enough, but if they let Guehi join a direct rival then serious questions need to be asked.
Liverpool are confident he will sign on a free transfer anyway, so if they put a bid in he would likely choose them first, sparing any blushes.
If the Reds do wait, they risk losing out on him to clubs abroad or now being trumped early by Man City, something that cannot happen.
Everyone knows Guehi’s quality and that he is worth way more than what he will go for anyway, so Liverpool really do not have an excuse and they simply cannot just let him join Man City.
