Liverpool and Fulham went head-to-head in a Premier League meeting at Craven Cottage on January 4.
Arne Slot was forced to make changes to his squad prior to the match following an issue with Hugo Ekitike.
The striker had a minor fitness issue and was replaced in the starting eleven by Cody Gakpo.
How would you react if Liverpool actually sign Lionel Messi 🫨
Could this really happen?
Gakpo has played as a striker previously, but has spent much of his Liverpool career on the left.
In turn, it was going to be interesting to see how Slot’s men, who have been pretty poor going forward in recent weeks, fared without a traditional number nine to call upon.
Liverpool fans shared Cody Gakpo verdict vs Fulham
Liverpool began the fixture, as we have seen in previous matches, pretty flat.
Their first decent chance of the half came inside the 10th minute when Curtis Jones played a through ball to Cody Gakpo.
But the Dutchman, who could have been through on goal, took a wide touch before dragging his effort well past the goal.
Gakpo is not exactly a fan favourite right now, and many supporters have since shared their views on the forward after his attempt against Fulham.
One fan wrote: “Gakpo – as ever – runs AWAY from the net, and then scuffs a weak shot wide. He’s so second division.”
A second echoed: “Gakpo clearly not first team quality, LFC fruitless on the break.”
“Gakpo has an easy chance all he has to do is cut inside and shoot… His favourite thing So he cuts outside and whips a weak-footed attempt wide,” wrote another.
A fourth suggested: “Cody one foot Gakpo there, ladies and gentlemen… Chiesa does better there.”
“Gakpo is one of the worst footballers I’ve ever seen. He’s so limited and predictable. He’s possibly one of the worst forwards in the league this season,” claimed another fan.
“The same question again and again: what is Cody Gakpo good at?” Asked a sixth.

Liverpool are without both of their strikers this weekend due to injury and fitness issues, hence why the ex-PSV man started through the middle.
But as one fan did point out, there is a potential option Slot could have picked over Gakpo.
Federico Chiesa lost his place in the team last week to Jeremie Frimpong after the Italian was quiet against Wolves.
The Italian was once again benched versus Fulham, but perhaps he could come on and make an impact as a centre-forward in the second half.
