Liverpool fans are in complete agreement about Florian Wirtz after Leeds – something’s changed

Liverpool were looking to extend their unbeaten run when they met Leeds United in a Premier League clash this week.

Arne Slot hasn’t been able to transform the Reds back into the lethal side we saw last season, but results have improved.

It was eight games unbeaten in all competitions before Thursday and three wins from three in the Premier League.

Who was the most disappointing performer against Leeds?

Shocking display all round

However, as was the case against Tottenham and Wolves in recent weeks, Liverpool, for the most part, did not look close to their best for much of the Leeds tie.

Liverpool fans unhappy with Florian Wirtz’s display vs Leeds United

Jeremie Frimpong was a bright spark out wide, but his fellow winger on the day, Florian Wirtz, looked off his game.

Liverpool fans praised Wirtz and Ekitike after the 3-3 draw with Daniel Farke’s side last month.

The German’s assist against Tottenham earned similar admiration from supporters as well.

Meanwhile, Liverpool fans couldn’t stop raving about Wirtz when he scored his first goal last week.

Yet he had one quiet game against Leeds this time around, and the view of the summer addition has completely shifted.

One fan wrote: “Wirtz is stinking the place out,” with a second echoing: “This is a proper stinker and hooked from Wirtz.”

“Wirtz off it today,” claimed a third, while another suggested: “Still think Wirtz will come good but this is a horror showing.”

Prior to the German being replaced by Cody Gakpo, another demanded: “Wirtz is still in Christmas mode. Get him off.”

A fifth stated: “Wirtz has been so bad,” and a sixth fan wrote: “Wirtz back to default,” while another commented: “Nice to see Wirtz really kicking on after scoring last game. So poor.”

For some context, Wirtz ended the game with four total shots, only one of which was on target.

He completed 80% of his passes against Leeds, did not manage one successful dribble, and lost possession 15 times.

Not the best display, of course, but it seems harsh to be so critical of a player who, in recent weeks at least, has been one of Liverpool’s better performers.
