Liverpool and Leeds United met in a Premier League fixture at 5:30pm on Thursday.

Ahead of the fixture, the Reds were already confirmed to be without two of their attackers.

Mohamed Salah is competing at the AFCON with Egypt and is set to play his first knockout game of the tournament on January 5.

What changes would you make to Liverpool’s starting XI vs Leeds? 🤔

Elsewhere, Alexander Isak is sidelined for a couple of months after undergoing surgery at the back end of December.

Liverpool were then without Florian Wirtz for training on Tuesday ahead of the Leeds fixture.

Liverpool fans wanted Federico Chiesa to start vs Leeds United

Thankfully, the German was included in the starting eleven on January 1, seemingly overcoming whatever issue he may or may not have had.

But with Wirtz missing training, Liverpool fans, using Rousing The Kop’s TalkingPoints forum, commented on who they wanted to see in attack against the Whites.

Fan favourite Federico Chiesa was given a lot of love by supporters, some of whom were shocked by the Italian being axed from the eleven to take on Leeds.

One fan wrote: “Poor Chiesa getting benched for a RB!”

A second added: “He [Chiesa] did fine against Wolves and playing on the left would give him another chance in his most natural position.”

“Start Rio [Ngumoha] or Chiesa,” stated another Liverpool supporter.

Another fan replied: “Rio never gets a chance, he’s being wasted.”

“Should be Chiesa but seems unlikely Slot will choose him over Gakpo,” a fifth claimed, while another stated: “Justice for Chiesa.”

Liverpool can only sign ONE player this January, which position should they strengthen?

Will Federico Chiesa leave Liverpool in January

The Italian lost his place against Leeds for natural right-back Jeremie Frimpong, with Conor Bradley filling in on the right of the back-four.

The Dutch defender is an attack-minded option, of course, but Chiesa losing out to a full-back surely doesn’t bode well for his long-term future.

But as Fabrizio Romano has suggested, Liverpool could keep the winger this winter despite his lack of game time.

He said: “Salah is obviously already out for the Africa Cup of Nations. Chiesa started the last match, so at the moment it’s not yet a certainty.

“In fact, those close to Chiesa expect that Liverpool won’t want to release him in January.”
