Florian Wirtz has really started to prove his worth over recent weeks.

The Reds’ new signings, bar Hugo Ekitike of course, had a slow start to life at Liverpool, but now things seem to be picking up.

Wirtz is one of those who is starting to come out of his shell, with the German finally scoring his first goal for the club during their 2-1 win over Wolves.

Liverpool can only sign ONE player this January, which position should they strengthen?

Everyone knew the talent he had after being compared with some of the best names in Europe, but now he is starting to show it at Anfield.

This has only led to him being likened to more players, with the latest being a Liverpool legend from the 1980s.

Florian Wirtz has been compared to Peter Beardsley

The majority of the newer generation of Liverpool fans might not even know who Peter Beardsley is, but for those who grew up watching him for the Reds in the late 1980s, they will know just how good he was.

Like Wirtz, he once broke the British transfer record when moving from Newcastle to Liverpool, but costing just £1.9m shows just how ridiculous money is in football right now.

Despite the big gap in valuation, former Liverpool star John Aldridge believes that both Wirtz and Beardsley are very similar, with the ex-Red making a comparison after Liverpool vs Wolves.

“That first goal for Florian Wirtz was going to come, wasn’t it? I’ve watched him for some time. He’s a player,” he wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo.

“He reminds me of Peter Beardsley. He’s bright, he’s smart, but he needed that goal. It was playing on his mind. It’ll be a relief to him and he can build on it now for sure.”

Beardsley scored 59 goals for Liverpool during his four-year stay on Merseyside, and with Wirtz finally off the mark, he will be thinking about closing in on that tally.

Florian Wirtz is the glue for Liverpool

Which player does Florian Wirtz remind you of the most?

He has been compared before to Lionel Messi, Luka Modric and now Peter Beardsley

Even if Wirtz does not kick on in terms of goals and assists, he can still be impactful, even though fans may want more for £116m.

But it is clear that everything goes through him, with the German having a good understanding with his teammates and linking the defence with the attack.

He and Milos Kerkez have formed a really good relationship, and so too has Ekitike, with Wirtz linking it all together.

He starts the attacks by driving with the ball forward and playing killer passes, with 2026 his time to really shine in a Liverpool shirt.
