Florian Wirtz has started to come to life for Liverpool in recent weeks, and he is starting to get output to show for it.
The Reds’ new signings, bar Hugo Ekitike, have not had the best of starts since joining in the summer, but almost all of them are starting to find their feet.
Wirtz in particular is getting better and better, with the German getting his first goal for the club during their 2-1 win over Wolves on Saturday.

Throughout his short, but impressive, career, he has already been compared to many top players, something that only adds hype to his name.
But after the weekend, Wayne Rooney has likened him to an ex-Man United flop, with Reds fans hoping he does not turn out like him at all.

Being German, Wirtz has, of course, been compared to some of his country’s best ever players, and it is clear to see why.
And even though Bastian Schweinsteiger is one of those, it is a rather strange comparison to make given how different they are as players.
However, Rooney’s justification is fairly plausible, although if he actually turns out like the former midfielder, then he will be considered a flop in England.
“He’s starting to get a real good understanding with [Milos] Kerkez. He was causing problems all game,” Rooney said on Match of the Day.
“He’s showing glimpses of being a top, top player which he can be for Liverpool. I thought he was excellent.
“I remember Bastian Schweinsteiger when he first joined Manchester United, he was surprised at the pace of the Premier League.
“He liked to get his foot on the ball and slow the game down, and sometimes you need time to adapt to [the league].”

Although many rival fans had already written him off, Wirtz is starting to prove them wrong, and he is only just getting started.
He seems to get better week after week, and even though Wolves are bottom of the league, this was his best game in a Liverpool shirt.
He is managing to get on the ball a lot more and be more decisive with it, as well as knowing when to release it, showing he is now up to speed.
With 2026 fast approaching, this really could be the year Wirtz announces himself fully to English football, and if he carries on, he could become absolutely essential to everything Liverpool do.
