Liverpool clashed with Rob Edwards’ Wolves in a Premier League meeting over the weekend.
It was an interesting 90 minutes from the Reds, who dominated in the first half and secured a comfortable lead.
Florian Wirtz was praised by fans during the fixture, and the German scored his first-ever Premier League goal right before the break.
Who was Liverpool’s best player during the 2-1 win over Wolves?
Ryan Gravenberch netted the opener, and Liverpool were 2-0 up when play resumed.
However, Arne Slot’s men conceded yet another set-piece in the 51st minute and their display in the second half was not great.
Liverpool fans unhappy with Curtis Jones vs Wolves
Now, somewhat surprisingly, a number of Liverpool fans have taken to social media to hit out at Curtis Jones for his outing on Saturday.
One fan claimed: “Curtis fraud Jones is a shocking and embarrassing footballer. He is only liked because he comes from Liverpool. Lord have mercy.”
A second stated: “Curtis Jones can’t pass a ball,” with a third writing: “Curtis Jones is an imposter.”
“Curtis Jones dreams of being a Liverpool captain, but quality-wise, dude is so subpar that he shouldn’t be anywhere close to playing for top 10 PL teams,” a fourth suggested.
Another supporter added: “Curtis Jones forever slowing attacks down, feels like he offers us nothing against teams that park the bus and sit deep. Wirtz is having a great game.”
A sixth suggested that Harvey Elliott would be a better option: “Everything Curtis Jones does makes me angry. My boy Harvey Elliott plays 1,000,000 times better, and everyone can even see it.”
While a seventh asked: “How —- is Curtis Jones today?”
Who will be Liverpool’s Player of the Season in 2025/26?!🏆
It seems a pretty harsh assessment of the midfielder, given how crucial he has been in the recent turnaround.
Jones has shown leadership qualities on and off the pitch, stepping up when other senior players were silent during a run of nine defeats from 12.
On the field, the Liverpool-born midfielder has shone in recent matches, forming a great connection with Ryan Gravenberch.
Yes, he wasn’t amazing against Wolves, but some of the criticism levelled at Jones, who was showered in praise by fans against Brighton, was harsh.
It’s also worth noting that Liverpool, especially with Wataru Endo sidelined, have very little midfield depth right now, so supporters will probably need to get used to seeing the Englishman in the starting eleven going forward.
