Liverpool round out their 2025 with a home Premier League meeting against Rob Edwards’ Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Ahead of the fixture, it has been confirmed by Arne Slot that Joe Gomez and Wataru Endo are out.
We also know Dominik Szoboszlai is suspended for the match after picking up another yellow card in the win over Tottenham.
Liverpool sold A LOT of players in 2025 – but which one will be their biggest regret, and why?
Meanwhile, Slot has said that Cody Gakpo and Conor Bradley are ’50/50′ for the meeting with Wolves.
Having Bradley fit enough to feature will be a boost, given how depleted Liverpool’s right-hand side is right now.
Liverpool fans don’t want Cody Gakpo back vs Wolves
But Liverpool fans have taken to social media to express their concern about Gakpo coming straight back into the team.
It’s become pretty clear that Slot favours the Dutchman, and the only reason he’s been left out in recent games is because of injury.
In his absence, however, Milos Kerkez has looked much improved, and fans are now dreading Gakpo’s potential return.
One fan wrote: “He’s going to throw Gakpo straight back into the starting line-up, isn’t he?” followed by a worried gif.
Another responded: “Yes, without doubt, and I’m ——- dreading it.”
A third suggested that the winger’s return to the eleven will mean it is ‘advantage Wolves’.
“We won three without him. Kerkez plays so much better. If he puts Gakpo back in, I am done with Slot,” claimed a fourth.
A fifth Liverpool fan agreed: “100% it’s ——- pathetic,” and another wrote: “We are cooked. Kerkez and Wirtz made more links between them in the last match than Kerkez and Gakpo did the whole season.”
Who has been Liverpool’s best player in 2025?
Arne Slot will make clear statement with Wolves team selection
While no game in the Premier League is a guaranteed win, playing at home to a Wolves team that hasn’t secured three points once this season is about as close as you can get.
In turn, this should be the ideal game for Slot to perhaps give some fringe players a chance.
The lack of options on the right make it the perfect game for Federico Chiesa to be handed a start.
However, if he’s at the very least not brought on early in the second half by Slot, it seems pretty clear the Italian has no place in the team and should probably look at a January move for the good of his own career.
Meanwhile, there is simply no reason at all for Gakpo to be rushed back after his injury.
Kerkez and Wirtz are playing well down the left, so why would that need to change now?
Gakpo’s connection with the Hungarian is poor, and it’s no coincidence the former Bournemouth man has looked sharper since the Dutchman was sidelined.
If Slot does select the ex-PSV man, however, it will be a clear sign fringe stars like Chiesa will not get a look-in during the remainder of 2025/26.
