Hugo Ekitike stole the show for Liverpool on Saturday after scoring both goals in the Reds’ 2-0 win over Brighton.

It has been a super week for the Frenchman, who also hit a double last Saturday against Leeds United.

But while Ekitike was earning praise from all corners for his match-winning performance for Liverpool, teammate Ibrahima Konate made sure to bring him back down to earth after the game.

Konate posted a ‘fat-face’ edit of Florian Wirtz onboard the Liverpool plane after Tuesday’s win over Inter Milan, with the German replying “Ok wait then…”

On Saturday, it was Ekitike‘s turn, and after seeing Konate share an out-of-pocket edit of him, the Liverpool striker made a comment of his own.

Ibrahima Konate trolls Hugo Ekitike after Liverpool win

Ekitike and Konate look to have become close this season. Now France international teammates, they share a dressing room for club and country.

That has not stopped Konate from teasing his new best friend, though, as he posted an edited Instagram photo of Ekitike talking to the media after Saturday’s win.

The image shows a bald Ekitike with a drastically reduced hairline and exaggerated features on his face.

At first glance, with nothing else altered on the photo, it almost looks real. But closer inspection reveals that Ekitike has been the target of some mischief from Konate.

“You’re in this one,” the two-goal hero laughed in the comments. “Vasi appointment next post.”

Will he play for Liverpool again?

Is Konate signing a new contract?

While he has been having a rough season, we have seen less of this side of Konate’s personality recently.

The 26-year-old has received a huge amount of criticism for his performances after seeing his personal level drop dramatically.

Happily, Konate’s form has returned somewhat over the last two matches, and he put in another very good display against Brighton.

With some of the joy returning to his off-the-field posts, Liverpool supporters may start hoping that Konate is set to sign a new deal.

In this kind of form, and with his propensity for bringing people together in the squad, he is such a big asset. Back to his happy ways, maybe Konate will soon have some big news to share off the field.
