Mohamed Salah’s long-term future at Liverpool now looks to be heavily in doubt.
The Reds drew 3-3 with Leeds United on December 6, and the Egyptian was once again on the bench for the third Premier League game in a row.
That has never happened to the winger during his entire time at Anfield, and the 33-year-old has seemingly had enough.
Speaking to Norwegian TV post-Leeds, Salah conducted a scathing interview, in which he suggested he may end up leaving Liverpool.
Who do you think should go, Salah or Slot?
He said: “I called my mother yesterday, you didn’t know I wasn’t going to start today, I knew that. I said come to the Brighton game, it doesn’t matter if I play or not, I’m going to enjoy it,” he said.
“We’ll see what happens, in my mind I’m going to enjoy it anyway, because I don’t know what’s going to happen anyway. The game will be at Anfield, so that will be my goodbye before I go to AFCON.”
Jamie Redknapp on Mohamed Salah leaving Liverpool in 2026
Meanwhile, former Red Jamie Redknapp has weighed in on the Egyptian’s future while speaking live on Sky Sports News in the aftermath of the Leeds draw.
The former midfielder says he doesn’t expect Salah to depart in January, but thinks a summer exit could be on the cards.
He said: “I don’t necessarily think in January. I just think we’ve got to let this settle.
“But I don’t foresee that he’ll see out the two years of his contract. I think it might be more in the summer.”
What is your favourite memory of Mohamed Salah’s time at Liverpool?
Should Salah indeed pursue an exit, he is not expected to be short of suitors.
The clubs who have shown interest in Mohamed Salah
He signed a new contract earlier this year, which keeps him on Merseyside for another 18 months.
However, it once again emerged this week that Salah still has Saudi interest as we head towards January.
An offer of £100m plus £50m in add-ons was made over the summer, but was rejected by Liverpool.
The latest update on interest from the Middle East says that Al Hilal are the leading candidate for his signature, but Al-Qadsiah are also interested.
