‘Incredible’ Liverpool star has just quietly had his best game for the Reds in a long time during West Ham win

Liverpool edged past West Ham 2-0 to take them into the top half.

The Reds were in desperate need of a good result against West Ham on Sunday, and although their overall performance was not the best, they got the job done.

Goals from Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo were enough to get the win, while players like Florian Wirtz had much improved performances compared to previous weeks.

However, there was another star who had a good game despite not getting the plaudits he perhaps deserves, with this needed after a few sub-par outings in recent games.

Ryan Gravenberch was quietly excellent against West Ham

At the start of the season, Ryan Gravenberch was one of Liverpool’s best players, with his performances being nothing short of ‘incredible’.

However, as of late, he has struggled to get into games a little bit more and, although he has been decent, he had not quite been himself.

But against West Ham, he looked a lot closer to his best, the Dutchman controlling the game from the middle of the park.

As per Sofascore, he won six of his nine duels, made five recoveries and produced three clearances, while covering almost every blade of grass.

He was key in helping keep a clean sheet too, with the midfield a lot less open in comparison with recent weeks.

If he continues this form, Liverpool might just be able to get out of this mess, with the win against the Hammers perhaps the start of something new.

Liverpool have a big week ahead

Slot’s job was under a bit of threat heading into this game, and just because they won, it does not mean he is out of the woods just yet.

Up next this week, they take on Sunderland and Leeds, two teams who really could cause them some problems and will pose a big threat.

Ideally, he needs to win both of these, but losing both would certainly leave his future in a lot of doubt during the busy festive period.

However, if Gravenberch and a few others turn up like they did against the Hammers, they might be able to get through these games, and Slot will be praying this is the case.
