Liverpool supporters have had to become used to losing of late, and felt the sting of defeat once again on Wednesday.
It has not only been losses recently, but humiliations for the Reds, and that continued with a barely believable 4-1 scoreline against PSV Eindhoven.
Having lost nine of the past 12 matches, Liverpool are entering uncharted territory. It is now their worst run of results since 1953. Despite that sobering statistic, legendary former captain Steven Gerrard does not think Liverpool are in a crisis.

“I don’t like using that word because a crisis to me is a club that needs years to get back to the top. I don’t think Liverpool are at that point at all, they’ve still got magnificent players,” Gerrard told TNT Sports.
“I think crisis is too strong. It’s not good enough, there’s no excuses for that at this football club, but crisis is a very strong word and disrespectful to some of the players that have delivered for this football club, and the manager who delivered six months ago.”
With the greatest of respect to Gerrard, he is wrong. Badly wrong. Liverpool need to wake up and smell the coffee. Arne Slot has to go.
Liverpool must act to recover from crisis
There is a chance Gerrard was simply sticking up for a fellow manager in the public sphere. He knows the feeling of being under pressure in a Premier League hot seat after all.
However, whatever the context, the Scouser must know that his former club are seriously in the doldrums.
As one of the best players in Liverpool history, Gerrard absolutely knows the standards that must be kept at Anfield. He would not stand for this.
The former No. 8 witnessed some hard times himself with the Reds, but none of the teams he was a part of ever sunk this low.
Pundits have their say on whether Arne Slot is facing the sack
Arguably the most worrying thing for Liverpool is that it is hard to see how the form magically corrects itself.
Injuries are starting to mount up, meaning Slot has little wiggle room in key positions, and the confidence is sapping away after each and every game.

Every time it feels as though Liverpool’s season cannot get any worse, it invariably does. Ordinarily, that only goes one way for the manager.
That the Reds have not yet pulled the trigger and sacked Slot is testament to Liverpool’s patience and also to the job the Dutchman did in delivering the Premier League title last season.
However, the current run of form is simply too bad. Slot has turned Liverpool into a laughing stock, and with no chinks of light at all on the horizon, it is time for him to go.
Even if Gerrard is right and Liverpool are not yet in a crisis, why must they wait to plumb those depths before making a change.
The time to act is now, or there will be no room left for this particular debate.
