Liverpool are expected to be active in the January transfer window, with moves for Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo mooted.

After missing out on the Crystal Palace stopper over the summer, it has now been claimed this week that Liverpool could sign Guehi during the 2026 winter window.

Further forward, the Reds are understood to be frontrunners ahead of Manchester United for Semenyo, whose release clause will be active come January.

Now, Liverpool fans have decided who they want sporting director Richard Hughes to bring to the club in the coming months.

Liverpool fans pick best signing out of Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo

In a post on X/Twitter, Reds supporters were asked who they would pick out of Guehi or Semenyo if they were Hughes.

While there were some calls for the Bournemouth star to be signed, the majority of fans voted heavily in favour of the Crystal Palace centre-back.

One fan wrote: “Guehi. No brainer. We don’t need more attackers.”

“Guehi, all day, every day,” added another, with a third writing: “If it’s only one in through the door in January then it’s obviously Guehi. Love Semenyo though and would love us to sign both. Feel like there’s a player that will move onto another level at a bigger club.

A fourth claimed signing a centre-back must happen for Liverpool to have a good season, tweeting: “Guehi. We could have a great season without Semenyo, we would need a miracle to have a great season without another CB.”

“Marc Guehi. We need defensive cover,” another fan simply stated, while a sixth explained: “Guehi. Forward line creates chances even now and when they get better chemistry, it will only improve.”

What Arne said about Liverpool signing a centre-back

Though the overwhelming verdict from fans is that another centre-back is a must-get in January, Liverpool’s manager doesn’t seem to think that position is a major problem right now.

Slot was asked about signing Guehi during his pre-Nottingham Forest press conference on Friday.

The Dutchman went on to explain the number of options he already has in that area and seemed to suggest another position needs more attention right now.

He said: “Talking about signing in the winter, there are so many games to be played before that.

“And the position we are in, it’s the last thing that’s on my mind, maybe not on Richards, but it’s the last thing on my mind, so it’s not a topic at all for me at the moment.

“We have at this moment in time, three centre-backs, with Joe Gomez included of course, and maybe Ryan, who can play in that position.

“Maybe you are not aware of it yet, but we have other positions where, which is a bit more of an issue.”
