Liverpool are back at Anfield on Wednesday for a Carabao Cup fixture.

The Reds do not have too much time to think about their loss at Brentford on the weekend as they return to action just four days later.

They are in Carabao Cup fourth round action against Crystal Palace, with this their third game against them already this season.

They lost to the Eagles on penalties in the Community Shield before also losing in the league last month due to a last-minute winner.

Liverpool will, therefore, be out for revenge, although changes are expected to be made, with Arne Slot set to give one star his debut.

Freddie Woodman to start in goal for Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

Cup action gives the Reds a chance to rotate their team and give many a much-needed rest, but this tie might be a little different.

Due to how poorly results have been, Slot will be keen to field a strong XI to get back to winning ways and reach the next round of the cup.

With that said, he will change a few things, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that one of them will be to start Freddie Woodman in goal instead of Giorgi Mamardashvili.

The 28-year-old joined on a free transfer from Preston North End in the summer, with the shot-stopper the third choice.

However, with Alisson injured, Woodman is expected to start between the sticks, with the Georgian Mamardashvili set to drop to the bench.

This is certainly a bold move from Slot in a must-win game, although he clearly has enough trust in him to get the job done.

Giorgi Mamardashvili will be disappointed

As the Georgian is the usual second choice, he will feel that he should be the one playing in the cup competitions, even if he has been playing every game recently.

Once Alisson is back, he will likely drop back to the bench and see opportunities limited, hence why he would have liked to play as much as possible before that becomes reality.

Mamardashvili has also not been the most convincing when he has played, mainly when the ball is at his feet, with the 25-year-old wanting to prove himself further.

Shot-stopping wise, he had a good game against Brentford, so he will feel a little hard done by, but either way, it will be a big night for Woodman.
