Jermaine Jenas thinks that Trent Alexander-Arnold exiting Liverpool has affected Mohamed Salah’s form this season.
The future of the Liverpool academy graduate was one of the most documented stories of the 2024-25 season, with the right-back often sending mixed signals about what his intentions were.
Although fans may have been happy to see the back of him after how he chose to leave Liverpool, now that we’re a decent way into the season, it’s clear that the Reds are missing his creativity.
Jeremie Frimpong was brought in by Arne Slot to try and plug the gap left by the Englishman, but in reality, Alexander-Arnold’s exit has had a much bigger impact than anyone thought.
Jenas has now given his thoughts on Salah’s current situation and why the right-back’s exit has hindered him so much.

On paper, it looks like all the summer signings that Liverpool made were upgrades on the players they’ve replaced.
However, as the season has gone on, cracks have started to show, and it feels like too much has changed at Anfield in such a short space of time.
One of Salah’s biggest problems for Liverpool this season has been his lack of confidence in front of goal, which has made him half the player he was last season.
And, while speaking on the Jenas and Pennant Present Podcast, Jenas shared why Salah is missing the Englishman more than anyone else.
“I just think that kind of like chemistry down that whole right-hand side is at its impact on Salah. Because when you look at him, he’s not like he’s not fit. It’s not like he’s got slower,” he said.
“He’s clearly lost confidence, which is going to happen to all players, great or whatever. But I think that Trent situation has gone under the radar a little bit.
“And actually now they’re probably sat there, Liverpool thinking, maybe we should have took the money.”

When the summer transfer window closed, every single pundit, journalist, and even rival fan said that Liverpool had one of the best windows ever.
They spent over £450 million on new players, with Slot and Richard Hughes managing to bring in several Premier League-proven players such as Alexander Isak and Milos Kerkez.
And, with the form that Salah and Isak were in last season, there were talks of multiple records being broken and Liverpool perhaps even having the best attacking three in the world.
However, that’s been far from the case with Salah and Isak, both performing under expectations.
It’s still early in the season, and there’s still time for things to turn around, but if they don’t manage to start contributing to some goals soon, some serious questions will need to be asked.
