Chris Sutton says one Liverpool player looks like he’s got his boots on the wrong feet when he plays

Liverpool have performed well below par over the last few weeks.

The fact that the Reds were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United on Sunday shows how far they’ve fallen compared to last season.

At the start of the 2025-26 campaign, most thought Liverpool were playing well. However, that was only because of the many late goals they scored, which earned them wins.

However, as we’ve got deeper into the season, cracks have started to show with Mohamed Salah even miles off his best.

He’s still managed to contribute to the odd goal here and there, but most of the time, when the Egyptian King gets into the final third, fans are expecting him to miss.

After Liverpool were beaten by United, Chris Sutton shared his thoughts on Salah and made a rather harsh claim about the attacker.

Chris Sutton thinks Mohamed Salah has been terrible for Liverpool this season

The fact that Salah contributed to over 50 goals across all competitions last term cannot be forgotten about.

He was the Premier League’s best player by a country mile last term, and if Liverpool had got further in the Champions League, he’d have been one of the top contenders for the 2025 Ballon d’Or.

However, when Salah played against Man United on Sunday, it felt like he didn’t know how to shoot at all.

He skied multiple chances, and every time he was passed the ball, he never managed to do anything with it.

And now, while speaking on BBC Sport’s Football Daily Podcast, Sutton has claimed that the attacker looks like he’s “got his boots on the wrong feet” this season.

“Mo Salah has got his boots on the wrong feet this season, all that stuff about a new deal, and he just hasn’t found any sort of form,” he said.

“Having said all that, Liverpool still could have won the game.

“Gakpo hit the post three times. He had that headed opportunity. I understand what Slot is saying in saying they didn’t take the chances, but I think defensively is where I’m more concerned about Liverpool.”

Mohamed Salah needs to be benched for the next couple of games

Salah is rarely ever in a bad run of form, so his recent performances have been rather worrying.

The former Chelsea man is usually the guy that Liverpool fall back on when times get tough, but at the moment, he’s one of the poor performers.

Although what Sutton said may have been a tad harsh, it does feel like he’s been half the player he was last season.

And, even though it feels crazy to say this, the best thing for him at the moment would be to spend some time out of the limelight and allow Federico Chiesa to take his place.

Each time the Italian has been brought on, he’s managed to change the game in one way or another, and he’s sometimes even been the reason why Liverpool have earned all three points.

The former Juventus man will also have an axe to grind due to the lack of game time Slot has given him.

The Reds’ next game is against Eintracht Frankfurt, and if changes aren’t made and Liverpool lose once again, Slot will never hear the end of it, with questions about his future likely to be raised.
