Florian Wirtz told he needs to have a word with Mohamed Salah after what happened this week

Liverpool’s win over Eintracht Frankfurt was a perfect confidence boost, but there were still some issues in the team.

The third game in this Champions League campaign, fortunately, ended the four-game losing streak of the Reds in all competitions as they eventually cruised to a 5-1 victory over their German hosts.

It was a night to remember for many players, with some impeccable performances as Florian Wirtz finally registered two assists in the game, which will no doubt help him to kick on in his career at the club.

The German could have even had a goal on this night if it were not for Mohamed Salah’s decision to take on a shot rather than pass to his Liverpool teammate, who was wide open for a tap-in.

Salah has not been in form this season, with the Egyptian registering a lower goal tally than usual at this stage of the year, and coming off the bench in the European game, it was clear he was frustrated.

Jermaine Jenas says Florian Wirtz should have pulled Mohamed Salah for not passing

It was a baffling decision given the position that both were in, but it spoke more to the current mindset of the 33-year-old winger wanting to prove that he still has it in this squad.

However, it is no excuse for not trying to help out a teammate, and Wirtz, for his performance on the night, thoroughly deserved a goal to add to his tally.

Jermaine Jenas believes that the 22-year-old star should have pulled the winger aside to ask him why he did not pass the ball into space.

Speaking on the Wildcards Podcast, the former Tottenham Hotspur player explained how Wirtz should have gone about the Salah situation as he made a comparison to a former teammate.

“I’d like to think that Wirtz would have pulled him on it. But I think that every now and again, as a new player, you’ve got to do it.

“Salah is the daddy there, but you still need to at least say ‘did you see me?’ I remember when we were at Spurs, man. Jermain Defoe was the king of this.”

The Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah passing situation shows a persistent issue this season

What has been abundantly clear from the beginning of this season is that this team is very disjointed and lacks good communication.

Taking the example of the Salah shot, the pair, but especially the Egyptian, should have looked at and shouted to each other during the move.

Similarly, when Virgil van Dijk shouted at Milos Kerkez for being behind him during the Manchester United game and kicked the ball in his face, the pair needed to handle that more maturely.

What Arne Slot needs to sort out in these instances is the communication between players because it has been detrimental to the progress of this team.
