Hugo Ekitike was the perfect player to start against Eintracht Frankfurt last night.
After an early scare from Rasmus Kristensen, Liverpool found their stride following Ekitike’s sublime finish to kick off their goal-scoring bonanza, which ended 5-1.
There was a lot to like about this performance from the Reds, especially following a run of four losses, and one of those was the French forward who just lit up the attacking line with his skills.
It was a display in which Ekitike proved two Arne Slot decisions wrong when he dropped him for the Chelsea and Manchester United games, and with Alexander Isak injured, he will get more starts.
Since he debuted for the club in the Community Shield, the 23-year-old has been a real breath of fresh air and provided the exact kind of versatility needed in the forward areas.

Hugo Ekitike joins Diogo Jota as the seventh player to score at least five goals in his first eight appearances
After his brilliant introduction, he has registered six goal contributions, with five of those being goals in his first eight appearances at the club.
This has meant that the player has joined some great company, including the late, great Diogo Jota, in club history as the seventh player to score at least five in his first eight games.

The statistic provided by Michael Reid showed that he now sits alongside Mohamed Salah, Kenny Dalglish, and others to replicate the same feat when they joined the club.
It is special to see his name etched alongside Jota’s given the Portuguese’s impact on the team before his tragic and untimely death in July.
What this small piece of history shows is that the French striker could be in for a dazzling career with the Reds already.
Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak should play together more often
It was frustrating to see Alexander Isak leave the field with a groin injury, especially because of how well he and Ekitike linked up in the front three.
There was a real balance between the two with Cody Gakpo on the left flank, and it felt that it made the team much more free-flowing than they have been this season.
This proves that the manager has to be much more creative with his choices, given how well it worked, instead of sticking to tried and tested formations.
