Liverpool are incredibly fortunate to have a player of Dominik Szoboszlai’s quality in their team.
Last night’s Champions League game was a relief for the team as much as it was for the fans, as the Reds got past the early scare of an Eintracht Frankfurt goal to beat the hosts 5-1.
What this performance proved is that Arne Slot’s side does have it in them to control a game, be creative without losing defensive shape often, and prevent as many goals from being conceded.
A lot of this control was down to two men in midfield who dictated play perfectly in the absence of Ryan Gravenberch, as Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones made for a great partnership.
The Scouser should absolutely be applauded for his immense performance, and it proves that Jones can be Arne Slot’s secret weapon as long as they utilise him more.
However, the Hungarian has once again shown himself to be integral to Liverpool’s success.

Dominik Szoboszlai has proved he should be Liverpool’s future captain
Watching the 24-year-old play over these past few weeks, it is clear that out of many of the regular starters, not only is he the best but also the most consistent wherever he finds himself.
Whether asked to play at right back or in the midfield, it is no problem for the player, and last night’s midfield performance may just beat out some of his best this season – and that’s saying something.

Two goal contributions, including the sensational strike, were just part of a display which saw Szoboszlai win 100% of his ground duels, complete the majority of his long balls, and put 17 passes into the final third.
To have such quality consistently slotting into the team seamlessly is perfect for the health of the team, and it proves that he has all the qualities to be Liverpool’s future captain.
Forget the performance for one second and just look at his character on the pitch. He conducts himself in an incredibly professional and calm manner.
Already the captain of his national side Hungary, and one of the best midfielders in the world, once Virgil van Dijk hangs up his boots, Szoboszlai has to be the captain.
Wearing the No. 8 comes with a heavy mantle of responsibility, but in the short few years he has been at the club, he has really taken such a position in his stride.
It is almost too perfect to hand the armband back to a midfielder who wears such an important shirt for the club to miss the opportunity, once van Dijk departs.
Dominik Szoboszlai is an undroppable player
While on some occasions the Hungarian may need a break given the amount of games he will be playing for club and country, this season that player’s name should never be off the teamsheet.
His partnership with Gravenberch was already brilliant, and now that he has shown how well both he and Jones are as a pair, it would be crazy to drop him unless it is for fitness reasons.
The world really is Szoboszlai’s oyster, and his celebration last night showed his connection with the fans who know they have one of the best in control of the middle of the park.
