Liverpool have produced some incredible talent for England over the years.

Players such as Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher are just two names who spring to mind, with there likely to have been many others who have also left their mark.

Admittedly, Liverpool’s English representation within their team isn’t the best at the moment, with only Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez among Arne Slot’s first-team squad, but sooner or later, someone is likely to shine.

As well as producing talent, the Reds have also encouraged it and have helped make England better, with Ben Foster now calling for a former Liverpool ace to be taken to America by Thomas Tuchel this summer.

Over the last couple of international breaks, Tuchel has called up a very similar team each time.

Granted, these aren’t likely to be his final squad choices due to the absence of players such as Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer, but it’ll certainly give England’s fans an idea of the ones he’s going to take.

Tuchel has made a couple of strange calls regarding his squad choices this season, especially when Jordan Henderson was called up for the first time in a couple of years.

However, when speaking on talkSPORT, former Manchester United man Foster says that Henderson should actually be taken to the 2026 World Cup by the German.

“You need a Jordan Henderson character around the place to keep everybody in check,” he said.

“Everybody looks to Jordan Henderson, he’s the captain without being the captain, he’s almost a mini-manager at times too.

“He’s going to be the guy that when England play on a Friday night, for example, and they’ve got a training group on a Saturday, he’s going to buy the guy leading the training group on Saturday, making sure everyone is pulling in the right direction.

“[He’s a] must go [to the World Cup] for me.”

Although Tuchel taking Henderson would add another leader to his England ranks, the fact that players such as Harry Kane and John Stones will both be going to the World Cup shows that they already have leaders among their ranks.

Indeed, Henderson has made a return to the Premier League with Brentford and has started the season well, but when players such as Adam Wharton and Elliott Anderson are knocking around, it’s hard to see why Tuchel would take the former Liverpool man.

All three players perform best when they’re used in a holding midfield role and, with the way Tuchel is setting his England team up, there aren’t too many of those places to go around.

Every single player he chooses to take this summer needs to have a purpose and be as good as one another.

That is, especially if England want to try and finally win the World Cup for the first time since 1966.

With Tuchel now at the helm, it doesn’t feel like the Three Lions have ever had a better chance of winning the trophy.

So, with this in mind, the former Chelsea manager is going to have to think long and hard about who to take and who to leave; otherwise, things could end up turning sour.
