Liverpool have been dominating headlines this season.

Whether that be due to their £450million+ spend in the summer or their recent poor run of form, for one reason or another, Arne Slot’s men are often the centre of attention.

Several members of their first-team squad have performed well below their usual standards, with some fans even calling for them to be axed from the Reds’ starting XI.

However, even though the transfer window is now shut, that doesn’t mean that rumours aren’t rife.

And, in Nico Schlotterbeck’s case, things could be about to take a massive step up.

Christian Falk says Liverpool are going to make an offer for Nico Schlotterbeck ‘soon’

Over the last few days, links with the German centre-back have started to pick up.

This hardly comes as a surprise when the season-long injury to Giovanni Leoni is taken into account.

However, the fact that a new report from Christian Falk has shared that the Reds could ‘soon’ make an offer for the centre-back has come as a bit of a shock.

The report from the CF Bayern Insider website starts by saying Schlotterbeck would be ‘interested’ in making the move to Anfield.

Falk adds that this is likely a reaction from Liverpool due to the long-term injury that Leoni suffered.

In fact, the journalist even shares that there should ‘soon be contact’ between Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund about a potential move for the defender.

Dortmund have offered him an extension, but since the German isn’t happy with the wage on offer, he’s keeping his options open.

Nico Schlotterbeck would be the perfect long-term successor for Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool

Over the last few months, several potential centre-back targets have been thrown into the hat to become Virgil van Dijk’s successor for Liverpool.

The player that most people were tipping to become the next towering defender at Anfield was Leoni, but since he’s now injured, the focus has turned away from him.

Marc Guehi was on the verge of completing a Liverpool move on transfer deadline day, with Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano also getting a mention.

However, it’s now clear that Schlotterbeck would be the perfect option for them.

Not only is the German international still just 25 years old, but he’s also left-footed and has an impressive range of passing.

In addition to this, he also plays in a very similar role to Van Dijk at the moment for Dortmund, with Slot even able to use him at left-back if needed.

With all this in mind, most Liverpool fans are now likely hoping that a move for the 25-year-old will get over the line and help resolve their defensive problems before it’s too late.

That is, especially since Didi Hamann has hailed how “strong” his fellow countryman is in the air.
