Antoine Semenyo has already shared exactly what he thinks of Virgil van Dijk amid Liverpool links

Liverpool may have just spent over £400million on new players, but that hasn’t stopped them being linked with several more.

At the moment, most rival fans are fairly envious of the transfer window that Liverpool had.

Players such as Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz were brought in during their peak, and even though they haven’t hit the ground running yet, when they do, it’ll likely be over for most other Premier League teams.

However, it’s not only their attack that’s impressive, as even though he may be 33 years old, Virgil van Dijk is still widely regarded as the best centre-back in the world.

The Dutchman has been the Reds’ rock for as long as many can remember, and without him, it’s unclear how much worse off Liverpool would actually be.

Antoine Semenyo has already said that Virgil van Dijk is the toughest defender he’s ever faced

Antoine Semenyo has been dominating the headlines recently for all the right reasons.

The attacker is in the best form of his career at the moment, with Liverpool being linked with an interest in him.

Semenyo would be the perfect Mohamed Salah replacement in the future, especially if he can keep his performances at the level he’s set since the start of the season.

And, while speaking on the Earn Your Stripes Podcast back in 2024, the Bournemouth ace has already described what it’s actually like to face Van Dijk.

“Hardest defender I’d say, Virgil van Dijk,” Semenyo said.

“That year I signed [for Bournemouth] we beat them 2-0 and I came on in that game, I remember running behind and all I could hear was this man’s footsteps, dum, dum, dum, chasing me [down].

“I’m thinking hmmm, this guy’s fast, like he’s 6’5 and he is fast, like he’s got presence, you can hear him coming.”

Antoine Semenyo’s transfer would help solve a lot of Liverpool’s current issues

At the moment, one of the main things that Liverpool are lacking is creativity.

Wirtz was expected to be the man to step in and take over from Trent Alexander-Arnold, but, in reality, he’s still not adjusted to Premier League football.

Of course, it’s bound to take some time for players to adjust to their new surroundings, but even at this point in the season, you’d have expected more than just one assist from a £100million+ signing.

There’s plenty of time left in the season for things to turn around and end up working out, but all of their creative problems could be solved by Semenyo.

The former Bristol City man’s favoured position is right wing, but with the form that Salah has been in, at the moment, it’d feel like the Reds were upgrading.

Semenyo also has a keen eye for a pass, which would allow him to pick out his teammates if and when needed.

Here’s hoping that Liverpool hold off buying anyone in January so that they can throw everything they have at Semenyo in the summer.
