Liverpool have been the home to many Premier League greats over the years.
Players such as Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, and Mohamed Salah are just a few names that spring to mind when talking about Liverpool and the Premier League era.
However, seeing as though they’ve only won two Premier League titles, some of their players aren’t as highly regarded as some, such as those who played for Manchester United or Manchester City.

This often results in a lot of the Reds’ players getting overlooked in all-time Premier League debates, which, at the moment, seems to be happening a lot to Steven Gerrard.
Micah Richards is getting annoyed at how overlooked Steven Gerrard is getting by fans and pundits
Articles and videos are often shared of players saying who the best player is out of Gerrard, Paul Scholes, and Frank Lampard and other questions like that.
And, while some say that Gerrard is the best, more often than not, he’s overlooked for players such as Kevin De Bruyne due to the number of trophies he won with Man City.
And now, while speaking on the Rest is Football Podcast, Micah Richards has shared that he’s getting annoyed at people forgetting about what Gerrard did with his boyhood club.
“You know what’s starting to annoy me now? When people are talking about midfielders in Premier League history, everyone’s forgetting what Steven Gerrard did. You know, we go online and everyone’s talking about Keane and Vieira and De Bruyne,” he said.
“I know it’s fresh in people’s head and De Bruyne is definitely up there. But Steven Gerrard used to attack, defend, run the game, spray the ball. Like he had absolutely everything in his locker.
“And when people said, Steven Gerrard’s not that good. I’m just like, well, obviously, you didn’t watch at the time that he was in his peak, and it was for a long time.”
Steven Gerrard was on a different level compared to some of his peers
Although Gerrard did end up making the move to LA Galaxy towards the latter stages of his career, the fact that he turned down moves to Barcelona and Real Madrid is something you don’t often see.
For example, Trent Alexander-Arnold chose to make the move to Spain in the 2025-26 summer transfer window after spending the entirety of his career with his boyhood club.
And, while he may think that it was the best move for his career, the fact that he’ll no longer be welcomed back to Anfield doesn’t feel like the move was worthwhile.
However, one of the main differences between Gerrard and Alexander-Arnold was that, for a large chunk of his career, the midfielder was seen as one of the best players in the Premier League.

And, while Alexander-Arnold got into the team of the season on multiple occasions, he never really made it for England and was never dubbed the best player in the Premier League.
So, with this in mind, it’s clear to see why Richards is starting to get annoyed by Gerrard getting overlooked, as, to be honest, it’s highly unlikely that Liverpool will ever have a player like him again.
