Liverpool are keeping tabs on Eduardo Camavinga’s situation at Real Madrid as he adjusts to a squad role under Xabi Alonso, Rousing The Kop understands.

Camavinga is yet to begin any of Real’s eight La Liga matches in the starting XI, and has played just 10 minutes across their two Champions League fixtures.

As a result, Liverpool have been alerted to the possibility of the 22-year-old being available for transfer next summer.

The Reds are understood to be assessing whether to bolster their midfield in 2026, following an awkward start to the 2025/26 campaign.

Liverpool have a historical interest in Camavinga following his time at Rennes, and should the Frenchman be looking to move, they could make an approach to Real.

Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba are two early names being considered at Liverpool, but Camavinga is likely to become a candidate if his current inaction continues.

Eduardo Camavinga frustrated by lack of minutes

Camavinga is closing in on 200 appearances for Real Madrid since his arrival in the summer of 2021.

However, having featured in only half of Los Blancos La Liga matches in 2024/25, his game time has dwindled even further this season.

And speaking exclusively to RTK, transfer expert Graeme Bailey says this could lead to a transfer in 2026, with Liverpool very much in the mix.

“Liverpool are keeping abreast of the situation, he’s barely playing,” says Bailey. “I don’t think Liverpool have directly decided to invest in that midfield role just yet, but it is something that they are internally discussing.”

“There will be quite a lot of options in 2026, from your Adam Wharton’s and Baleba’s, but Camavinga is a player Liverpool like. They’ve got a historical interest in him and if he becomes available he is someone who they could come back in for.

“It will not be a January thing,” the reporter confirms. “But for 2026 I think it’s an area Liverpool are going to address.

“If come the turn of January Camavinga is in every starting XI clearly he’s not moving, of course he isn’t. But he only started 11 La Liga matches last season, if he starts less this time around he could look to leave. Xabi Alonso is trying to put his own mark on the squad and so far he prefers Tchouameni and Valverde in midfield.”

Liverpool keen to rework midfield

Arne Slot deployed a consistent midfield three last season which went a long way to securing the Premier League title for Liverpool.

However, the balance has been disrupted this summer after Florian Wirtz arrived for big money.

Alexis Mac Allister has struggled for form, leading to question marks over whether Slot could try something new in the middle of the pitch.

And according to Bailey, Mac Allister might be the one to miss out if a player in the ilk of Camavinga or Wharton arrives.

“Liverpool’s midfield is clearly not quite working as it is,” he says. “It does feel as though they will go to the double pivot, and it is a little hard to imagine Mac Allister fulfilling that role in the longer-term.”
