Nicky Butt says one Liverpool player’s positioning is awful, ‘he’s all over the show’

There’s no hiding from the fact that Liverpool’s form over the last 10 days or so has been poor.

The Reds have lost their last three games, with their winning streaks in the Premier League and Champions League getting tarnished.

Of course, this isn’t just down to their opponents being better than them, because a lot of it is due to the lack of fight that the Reds’ first-team squad have shown.

This, after spending £450million on new players in the summer, is far from ideal.

Several members of Arne Slot’s squad deserve plenty of criticism, but according to Nicky Butt, there’s one player who’s been miles off it.

Nicky Butt slams Alexander Isak’s positioning for Liverpool

The signing of Alexander Isak was arguably Liverpool’s most exciting of the transfer window.

Newcastle did everything in their power to try and keep him at St James’ Park this season, but, in the end, that was the last thing that the Sweden international wanted to do.

In fact, the number nine even went on strike and refused to play for Eddie Howe’s men, which allowed him to force his transfer to Anfield.

Many expected him to hit the ground running straight away due to the form he showed last season, but, since he lacked match fitness, he’s not been able to play as much as he’d have wanted to this term.

And now, while speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football Podcast, former Manchester United ace Butt shared his thoughts on the £125million man.

“Do you know with Isak, I think I watched the game, I think he’s all over the show,” he said.

“If I was his manager, I would just say to him, stay the width of the penalty box. Stop running down the channels. He’s a centre forward.

“He should be the centre of the goal, trying to score goals. He’s doing too much running down the channels for me.

“And the amount of time you’re seeing down the left side, down the right side, coming too deep.

“And all that is like he’s wanting to do everything and show how good you are. And it’s good. It’s good from the lad to go and prove yourself, but stay in the middle and score goals.”

Alexander Isak must prove he was worth the £125million that Liverpool spent on him

Although Isak may have pulled off an incredible assist for Cody Gakpo versus Chelsea on Saturday, it still feels like a lot more could come from the Sweden international.

Of course, it’s going to take time for the attacker to get up to full fitness after not partaking in any sort of pre-season.

However, now that we’re six games into the Premier League campaign, it feels like Liverpool fans should be seeing a lot more from their club-record signing than they currently are.

Indeed, the Reds’ poor form isn’t solely down to Isak not performing at his best, but if the former Real Sociedad man managed to reach the heights of his last campaign with Liverpool, it’s hard to see how they’d be stopped.
