Alexander Isak is still waiting for his first Premier League goal for Liverpool after drawing a blank against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Swede has had a steady start to life with the Reds after his British record move was completed on transfer deadline day.

Isak looked more lively against Chelsea and even bagged himself a first Liverpool assist, picking a ball out of the air on the swivel for Cody Gakpo to smash home.

Nevertheless, more will be expected from Liverpool’s new No. 9 once he returns from international duty in two weeks’ time.

Much more will also be demanded of the Reds themselves. Three defeats in a row for the first time in two-and-a-half years has sent the mood at Anfield through the floor.

Aside from the fans, no one will be feeling that disappointment more than the players themselves. But according to Isak, the Liverpool squad have total belief that they can right their course and get back on track.

Liverpool squad determined to turn things around

There will no doubt be Newcastle and Arsenal fans – as well as plenty more around the country – taking glee in Isak’s lean form since his record move.

However, the truth is that the 26-year-old has largely been good for Liverpool. A lack of service has not helped him, but when he’s had the ball at his feet Isak has been impressive.

The striker also speaks well off the field, and should be commended for fronting up to the LFCTV cameras after the defeat. He was the only Liverpool player to do so.

Asked how the Reds can build momentum again after another disappointing loss, Isak said there is belief within the dressing room that the team will show their best selves soon.

“I think the belief is there that we can, this team has shown many times,” he said. “It’s never easy of course but hard work and working on details and getting back to our best. We have that belief.”

Asked how he feels about featuring in Liverpool’s next game – the big rivalry against Manchester United – Isak said he was still excited about the whole season.

“I’m very excited for the whole season ahead,” he replied. “Game by game we have to improve if we want to achieve the things we want to, but really excited.”

Liverpool must beat Manchester United

While the international break usually lends frustration upon its arrival, Liverpool supporters will be relieved to see it this October.

When the team returns, though, they will do so with another must-win match.

Manchester United have been poor once again this season, but they will head to Anfield on the back of an important 2-0 win against Sunderland on Saturday.

With Liverpool in such bad form, Ruben Amorim may feel quietly confident that his team can come and snatch something on October 19th.

If that happens, then this will become much more than a mini slump for Liverpool. In many ways a match against their biggest rivals is the perfect way to bounce back. But it could also be the very worst way to lose again.
