Arne Slot hints at how Liverpool’s new set-up can still get the best out of Mo Salah despite Chelsea defeat

Liverpool head into the international break on a run of three losses on the bounce.

The Reds suffered late heartbreak yet again as Chelsea scored a 96th minute winner to snatch all three points.

This means that they have now lost three games in seven days, with Arne Slot having some big problems to sort out.

In his defence, the majority of his players are yet to step up and take a game by the scruff of the neck, with Mohamed Salah being one of these as he struggled yet again.

He started on the bench against Galatasaray but struggled to impact the game from the start at Stamford Bridge, with fans starting to be a little worried.

Slot does not seem to be, though, with the Dutchman believing that Liverpool’s new set-up can get the best out of his star man.

Arne Slot ‘liked’ Mohamed Salah’s performance against Chelsea

Salah has just two goals so far in the Premier League for Liverpool this season, a figure that is usually significantly higher after six games.

He failed to get on the scoresheet against Chelsea too, even though he had a few chances to score, with his overall quietness rather unusual and a little worrying.

Slot does not seem to be too concerned, however, and he is clearly backing the Egyptian to thrive in this new system soon.

“Did he create so much today because he didn’t play in mid-week, or did he miss the chances because he lacked a bit of sharpness that he could have had if he would have played against Galatasaray?” Slot said in his post-match press conference.

“We will never know. What I liked is that we brought him many times into the position he would like to be in and the position I would like him to be in.

“Because he’s shown in his career and since I’m here that in this position he can score many goals. I think today he had many opportunities to do what he’s done so often.

“But he’s a human being and it’s not like every chance he gets is always a goal. He can also have a game where he has chances in promising positions and doesn’t have a goal or an assist.”

Mohamed Salah is just adjusting his game

In the past, Salah has been the main man in attack and everything went through him, hence why he has scored as many as he has.

But now, he has other big stars around him who are also expected to contribute significantly, these being Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak.

It is clear that a lot of Liverpool’s attacks are going through them now instead of Salah too, something that he will have to adjust to and learn how to work with them.

Of course, with so much change in this area, they will not click overnight, so all that is needed is more time for them to gel, as once they do, they might just be unstoppable.
