Liverpool are now confident of agreeing a new contract with ‘important’ ace before the end of the season

Liverpool have been far from their best during their last two games.

They’ve managed to lose their winning streak in both the Premier League and Champions League, with Crystal Palace and Galatasaray getting the better of them.

Many expected Liverpool to cruise to the titles this season after the amount of money they spent in the summer.

And, while things may have started off well, they seem to be going downhill with no signs of their form being turned around.

They also have the expiration of several contracts to think about, with some major advancements being made about Ibrahima Konate’s future.

Liverpool have offered Ibrahima Konate another new contract

Konate has been one of Liverpool’s most important players over the last few years.

The Frenchman has formed a formidable partnership with Virgil van Dijk and has helped the Dutchman ensure that the Reds don’t concede all that many goals.

However, since the start of the 2025-26 season, it’s been clear that his contract situation is hanging heavy over his head, with L’Equipe now reporting that a ‘new proposal’ has been sent by Liverpool.

Real Madrid and other clubs across the world have been heavily linked with the centre-back, with the report saying that talks had been ‘suspended’ for several months.

Discussions are still ‘ongoing’ between the two, but those behind the scenes at Anfield are now ‘confident’ about extending his stay.

L’Equipe end their report by saying that Real Madrid are keeping an ‘eye’ on his situation, but no offers or negotiations have been put on the table just yet.

Liverpool must consider Ibrahima Konate’s recent form before extending his contract

Although Konate has been dubbed an “important” player for Liverpool by Van Dijk over the last few years, his recent form has been questionable.

A lot of the goals that the Anfield outfit have conceded this term have come due to a mistake made by the Frenchman.

He’s seemed way out of his depth this season, with the likes of Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong also failing to perform to the best of their ability.

Although Liverpool are still on top of the Premier League table, it’s clear that there are plenty of problems with Slot’s men at the moment.

Of course, it’s still early days, and there’s plenty of time for things to get turned around, but at the moment, it doesn’t feel like Konate is worth keeping around.

Granted, losing him for nothing at the end of the season wouldn’t be ideal either, but with centre-backs such as Marc Guehi and Dayot Upamecano likely to be free agents, the Reds must think about what the next best course of action is for them.

Otherwise, they could end up living to regret their decision.
