Liverpool suffered a minor setback on Tuesday as they were beaten 1-0 by Galatasaray in their Champions League clash.
Going into the competition, the reigning Premier League champions were the favourites to come away with the cup, but at the moment, it feels like that’s going to be close to impossible.
Indeed, the Reds have spent over £400million strengthening their first-team squad, but at the moment, it all seems rather dysfunctional.
Several of Arne Slot’s big-name additions have failed to live up to expectations, with Florian Wirtz being one of the biggest culprits.
The young German was expected to be the answer that Liverpool were looking for with their creativity issues last term, but at the moment, that’s far from the case.

That is, according to most people, at least.
Jamie O’Hara believes the chances that Florian Wirtz created for Liverpool were ‘really good’
Wirtz may only have one goal contribution to his name after joining Liverpool in the summer, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t creating anything.
Although he’s received no recognition for the work he puts in, you can tell that he just needs that first goal to get him over the line, and then he could be unleashed.
In addition to this, we’re still only a handful of games into the season with plenty of things likely to change as the campaign goes on.
And, although most fans and pundits ridiculed the performance Wirtz put in on Tuesday, Jamie O’Hara thought that the chances he managed to create were “really good.”
“I thought he did alright tonight, Wirtz, to be fair,” he said while live on talkSPORT.
“He creates, it goes unnoticed because they didn’t score Liverpool, but he actually created two or three really good opportunities for them.”
Liverpool need things to click as soon as possible
One of the main issues Liverpool were always going to face this season was getting their new arrivals to gel with one another.
Although all the players they brought in are arguably much better than those they shipped out, at the moment, it feels like they were better off last season.
Of course, they’re still at the top of the Premier League table, so not all hope is lost, but if things don’t click soon, it could go from bad to worse at Anfield almost instantly.
To be seen as successful this season, Slot needs to come away with either the Premier League or the Champions League.

Getting both will obviously be the main goal, but even the Dutchman has said himself that if he had to choose one, it would be the Champions League.
It’s unclear whether Liverpool will stay at the top of the table much longer, but if they don’t come back with a bang against Chelsea on Saturday, questions will start to be asked, especially since Cole Palmer is out injured.
