Liverpool have gone through many changes over the last few seasons.
Players have come and gone with the Anfield outfit even hiring a new manager after Jurgen Klopp announced that he was going to resign.
Indeed, Arne Slot getting hired by FSG ended up working out for the better as the Merseyside outfit managed to come away with the Premier League title last term.
However, for Liverpool to retain the title and do better in the Champions League this term, a massive clear-out was needed, and that’s exactly what happened.
Several players, such as Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, were moved on in the summer, with Harvey Elliott also exiting on deadline day.

And, according to Owen Hargreaves, this may have been a mistake on Liverpool’s behalf as he reckons that the young Englishman could end up becoming as good as Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard.
Owen Hargreaves says Harvey Elliott could be as good as Martin Odegaard in the future
Elliott was originally brought to Liverpool by Klopp when he was just 16 years old.
The midfielder was the German’s star-boy, and, even though he supports the club, he chose to make the move to Aston Villa in the summer to earn some more playing time.
The 22-year-old has been a breath of fresh air around Villa Park with the Englishman among Unai Emery’s best performers thus far.
And, while speaking to TNT Sports after Villa’s 1-0 win against Bologna on Thursday, Hargreaves shared his thoughts on how good Elliott could eventually become.
“I think Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio were brilliant for this Aston Villa team,” he said.
“ [However] I think Harvey Elliott can eventually go on to be a player as good as Martin Odegaard.
“I think technically he’s fantastic, he hasn’t had the opportunities at Liverpool obviously because they had so many players but I think centrally he’s a fabulous player.”
Liverpool may end up buying Harvey Elliott back in the future
At the moment, it’s clear that Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai would have been chosen over Elliott if he’d have stayed at Liverpool.
The attacking midfielder was left on Liverpool’s bench far too often last season, and although it felt likely that he was going to stick around for another campaign, things didn’t work out that way.
Elliott is currently on a season-long loan to the Villans, but, upon the expiry of the loan, they have an obligation to buy worth around £35million.
This may seem like a low fee for the youngster, especially after his Under-21 Euros performance for England, but, within the deal, Liverpool have a buy-back clause worth around £55million.
This will then allow the Reds to buy him back in the future if he ends up fulfilling his potential and performing better than his former Liverpool teammates.
Of course, last season could have been the end of Elliott’s Liverpool journey, but never say never, that is, especially if he does end up becoming as good as Odegaard.
