Liverpool expecting last minute bid for £50m player on transfer deadline day and could sell him

Liverpool have had a massive clear-out this summer.

Although they may have spent a massive chunk of change on bringing players in this summer, plenty from Arne Slot’s first-team squad have been sold.

Indeed, Liverpool were likely happier to see the back of some players than others, but with the amount of improvements they needed across the board, it makes sense why the Reds have moved several players on.

And, since the future of Alexander Isak seems to be with Liverpool, it’s not a surprise to see the Anfield outfit looking to bring some extra money in.

That is, especially since the deal for Isak is reported to be worth around £125million.

Harvey Elliott could still end up on the chopping block at Liverpool before the transfer deadline

Since there are now fewer than 12 hours left of the transfer window, some last-minute moves are likely to be sanctioned across the board.

Talks for Joe Gomez, Marc Guehi, and Isak are all still underway, and, until the window slams shut, there’s no knowing what the Reds’ first-team squad could end up looking like.

Indeed, Liverpool proved how strong they were after they beat Arsenal 1-0 on Sunday, with Dominik Szoboszlai’s 32-yard strike the thing that separated the two.

However, as well as incomings on Monday, there could also be some more outgoings with Daily Mail journalist Lewis Steele sharing an update on the future of Harvey Elliott via his personal X account.

“No official bids for Harvey Elliott yet but still a possibility he leaves today if the money is right, now Alexander Isak is joining,” he wrote.

“RB Leipzig have made several approaches but money is short of Liverpool’s £50m asking price so far. But expect them to return.

“One to watch.”

Liverpool should sell Harvey Elliott as long as they have a buy-back clause

Since Florian Wirtz and Szoboszlai are both likely to start over Harvey Elliott in his preferred number 10 role this season, it’s hard to see where the 22-year-old could break into Slot’s starting XI.

The Englishman was Jurgen Klopp’s star boy, and although the German tried to shoehorn him into his first-team whenever possible, it’s clear that Slot won’t do the same.

Last season was a reminder of this as Elliott was left on the bench more often than not, and that was before Wirtz had even joined.

Indeed, his versatility is a massive asset should the Reds end up in an injury crisis, but in general, he’s not at the same level as some of his peers.

However, if Elliott was given a starring role for a team such as RB Leipzig, he could fulfil every bit of potential he has, which would leave Liverpool rather red-faced.

So, if Leipzig do end up making a £50million bid for Elliott and it ends up getting accepted, Liverpool must ensure they have a buy-back clause in the deal, much like the one they have with Bayer Leverkusen for Jarell Quansah.

Otherwise, they could end up in a spot of bother.
