Federico Chiesa could come under threat from another wonderkid at Liverpool after PSG rumours emerge

Federico Chiesa has become something of a cult hero at Liverpool this season.

The Italian is the proud owner of one of the best songs that the Reds’ fans sing, and even though he hasn’t played all that much, he’s adored by everyone involved with the Anfield outfit.

This season, his position in the squad seems to have been tested once again, with Rio Ngumoha being chosen over him in Liverpool’s Champions League squad.

However, seeing as though Liverpool are constantly looking for ways to try and improve their first-team squad, it feels like Chiesa’s place in the team is about to be tested once again.

And, that’s because the Reds are now being linked with PSG wonderkid Ibrahima Mbaye, who seems to be having a breakout season for Luis Enrique’s men.

Ibrahim Mbaye could end up being Federico Chiesa’s replacement at Liverpool

One thing that was made clear in the 2025-26 summer transfer window is that Liverpool won’t stop at anything to get their transfer targets.

It may have taken them until deadline day to get the deal for Alexander Isak over the line, but the main thing that matters is that he’s now a Liverpool player.

And, as per a report from E-Noticies, Mbaye has caught the attention of Liverpool and Barcelona.

The attacker has played seven times for PSG this season, with his all-time appearances amounting to 19.

The report does say that the Reds are behind Barca in their pursuit of the youngster, but their interest is still there.

Why Federico Chiesa’s time at Liverpool could be numbered

Mbaye has been used on both wings by Enrique this season, and although he’s only scored one goal over the last couple of years, his talent is evident.

The fact that he’s only 17 years old also plays in his favour as it means that he has plenty of room to grow into an even better player than he already is, which, with the talent he’s shown so far, is rather scary.

Indeed, Chiesa has much more experience and would arguably be a better fit for Liverpool, but if Arne Slot continues to choose other players over him, it would be a massive surprise not to see him seek an exit this term.

At the moment, these are all ifs, buts and maybes, of course, but with Rio Ngumoha already taking the Italian’s limelight, it feels like another youngster being brought in by Liverpool could be the final nail in Chiesa’s coffin.
