Roy Keane shares if Arsenal have the quality to beat Liverpool to the Premier League title this season

Liverpool are the clear favourites to come away with the Premier League title this season.

The Reds have won all five of their opening top-flight games this term, with their quality shining through on more than one occasion.

Indeed, their wins may have been down to some luck due to the multiple last-minute winners they’ve scored by players such as Virgil van Dijk, but at the end of the day, a win is a win.

Even though Arne Slot’s men are seen as the favourites to run away with the league again, Arsenal have also been touted by many to come out on top.

Both teams have a solid amount of depth among their ranks, with Arsenal’s defence arguably being better than the Reds’.

However, speaking before the 1-1 draw between Arsenal and Manchester City, Roy Keane gave an insight into whether he thinks Mikel Arteta’s men have what it takes to beat Liverpool to the title this term.

Roy Keane believes that Arsenal could win the Premier League this season

One thing that has been made clear during the summer transfer window is that Liverpool and Arsenal have both improved their squads.

Indeed, a lot of Arsenal’s bolstering has come in their defence with players such as Piero Hincapie getting brought in, whereas Liverpool have mostly focused on their attack, with Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak two of the biggest deals of the transfer window.

Both have every right to be tipped to win the Premier League title, but after Liverpool beat the Gunners 1-0 in their last matchup, the scale seems to be tipped in the Reds’ favour at the moment.

However, as mentioned, before the game between Arsenal and City last Sunday, Keane was speaking about the Gunners’ chances of winning the title while live on Sky Sports.

“If you’re looking at both squads [Manchester City and Arsenal], you’re thinking Arsenal are probably going to be the nearest rivals to Liverpool [for the Premier League title],” he said.

Later in the show, the topic was revisited and Keane added the following: “Over the last few years, every time I’ve seen City and Arsenal in terms of winning the league title, I’ve never felt Arsenal had enough.

“[They never] had enough strength in depth, they obviously lacked that striker but I look at Arsenal’s group of players now and I think they have the players capable of winning the Premier League.”

Liverpool must keep their leads throughout the rest of the Premier League season

One of the scariest things about being a Liverpool supporter this year will have undoubtedly been the last-minute goals they’ve scored.

There have been several times this season when it’s felt like Liverpool were going to lose their games, but somehow, they’ve managed to pull a win out of the bag.

Fortunately for Liverpool, the last-minute goals have always gone their way, but if they want to end up on top of the table by the end of the season, they need to figure out how to hold onto their leads.

This season, they’ve always started their games with their performances dropping off as the season went on.

Now, however, Slot must figure out a way to ensure his team stays on top of their opponents for the full 90 minutes.

Otherwise, by the end of the campaign, things could go south really quickly, which would be far from ideal.
