Liverpool extended their perfect Premier League start as they beat Everton 2-1 on Saturday.
The game was held at Anfield with David Moyes still not managing to win at the Reds’ ground throughout his entire career.
It was a fairly end-to-end clash, with Liverpool being on the back foot for most of the second 45 minutes.
However, due to the goals that Hugo Ekitike and Ryan Gravenberch put away, the Anfield outfit just about held onto their lead.

Although there weren’t any particularly amazing performances from any of Slot’s 11, Liverpool’s midfield three still caught the eye of Peter Crouch.
Peter Crouch thinks Liverpool’s midfield three were “pure class” against Everton
The Merseyside derby was the first Premier League game of the season that Florian Wirtz didn’t start.
Instead, Dominik Szoboszlai was moved into the number 10 role with the Hungarian putting in yet another impressive performance.
His two-yard pass in the build-up to Ekitike’s goal was one of the main reasons why the Frenchman put the ball in the back of the net, and without that, the Merseyside derby would’ve likely ended in a 1-1 draw.
And, even though their £116million man didn’t start the game, Crouch was still left in awe of the performance that Slot’s midfield three put in.
“They’ve been fantastic the midfield three for Liverpool,” he said.
“This is pure class, every midfielder has a touch.
“I’m not sure what Idrissa Gueye is doing there; that’s terrible defending.”
Arne Slot must find a way to stop Liverpool from becoming lacklustre at the end of their games
A common theme that has reoccurred throughout the 2025-26 season so far is that the Reds have needed a last-minute goal to earn all three points.
And, while that may not have been necessary on Saturday, it certainly felt like things could end up going that way.
Everton were by far the better team in the second half and likely deserved to earn at least one point for their efforts.

However, if Liverpool didn’t take their foot off the gas and refused to perform at the levels they showed in the first 45 minutes, then there wouldn’t have been any anxiousness whatsoever from Liverpool’s side of things.
Liverpool’s luck is bound to run out soon but for now, they can bask in the glory of sitting at the top of the Premier League table.
