Mohamed Salah had his best season ever during the 2024-25 campaign.
The Egyptian King contributed to over 50 goals across all competitions and, although he hasn’t likely hit the ground running as much as he’d have liked to in the 2025-26 season, he’s still an invaluable member of the squad.
Indeed, Alexander Isak will be looked towards to take some of the burden off Salah’s shoulders, but more often than not, the former Chelsea man will likely be Liverpool’s focal point.

And, if Liverpool had won the Champions League as well as the Premier League last term, there would be no questions about whether he deserves the Ballon d’Or or not.
However, since that didn’t happen, there’s still a question mark over who’s going to be nominated as the best player in the world.
Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry think Ousmane Dembele will win the Ballon d’Or
There have been several players throughout 2025 who have played above and beyond the levels expected of them.
Players such as Lamine Yamal, Salah, and Ousmane Dembele are among the few who have a real chance of winning the prestigious award.
And, due to the number of players who have performed to a high standard, nobody knows who’s actually going to win.
However, while live on CBS Sports Golazo, Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry gave their thoughts on who should win the award.
“I think, for me, they’re the top six players [Ousmane Dembele, Achraf Hakimi, Kylian Mbappe, Raphinha, Mohamed Salah, and Lamine Yamal] who I think I watched for the majority of last season, probably in this competition, also for their club form as well,” Carragher said.
“I think it will be Dembele on the back of the sort of season that Paris Saint-Germain had as well, but all of those players have got a decent shout [of winning the Ballon d’Or].
Thierry Henry was then asked whether his picks were any different to Carragher’s, to which he replied: ”Yes, very different [a picture of six Dembele’s then pops up].
“Those are my six contenders, I don’t even have to talk.”
Mohamed Salah deserves to win the Ballon d’Or
Although Liverpool may not have gotten all that far in the Champions League last term, the fact that Salah contributed to over 50 goals cannot be overlooked.
The attacker was one of the best players in the world last season, with his performances helping lead Arne Slot to his first Premier League title.
This season, things have started slowly, but now that Isak has made his debut for Liverpool, it feels like it’ll only be a matter of time before the ball starts rolling again.

At the moment, the Anfield outfit are the clear favourites to lift the Premier League once again, and after they beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 on Wednesday, things are also looking bright in the Champions League.
Of course, nobody can know who’s going to win the Ballon d’Or, but, from a numbers perspective, it’s clear that Salah should win over the likes of Dembele and Yamal.
