Virgil van Dijk has been Liverpool’s rock ever since he joined.

Initially, rival fans felt like the Reds overpaid for the Dutchman, but, realistically, it feels like they’ve underpaid.

That is, especially after all the trophies and glory that the centre-back has managed to bring to Anfield during his tenure.

Indeed, Liverpool have extended his stay until 2027, but as of now, it’s unclear whether or not he’ll stay around a little longer.

However, if he continues performing to the same levels he’s shown since the start of the 2025-26 campaign, it’s hard to see how Arne Slot could allow him to leave, especially if they don’t manage to source a decent replacement.

Virgil van Dijk didn’t want to answer whether he’d prefer to win the Premier League or Champions League this season

One of the main questions that fans have been pondering this season is whether they’d prefer to win the Premier League or the Champions League.

In Slot’s eyes, it feels like the Dutchman would prefer to win the Champions League as he ran away with the Premier League title last term.

But, if a team such as Arsenal ended up winning the Champions League or the Premier League this term, Liverpool would never hear the end of it due to the players they’ve signed this summer.

However, when asked by TNT Sports what he’d choose between winning the Premier League back-to-back or winning the Champions League this season, Van Dijk said the following: “I’m not going to answer that because I would love to win both.

“That’s what I’m gonna fight for this season to get it with my boys.”

Liverpool have enough players to challenge for both the Premier League and Champions League this season

After spending £450million in the summer, it’s clear that Liverpool have enough quality among their ranks to compete across all competitions.

Indeed, the FA Cup and Carabao Cup may be forgotten about a little bit, but even in those games, Slot could put out some of his youth players if he really wanted to.

Players such as Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, and Florian Wirtz will all have points to prove this season, with the trio taking up most of the Reds’ transfer budget this summer.

However, if several injuries end up occurring, the Anfield outfit could find themselves in a rather precarious situation.

But, for now at least, their main area of focus will be on their Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday evening, with the club looking to make a better name for themselves than they did last term.
