Liverpool managed to get their Champions League campaign off to the best start possible after beating Atletico Madrid 3-2.
The Reds were the best team throughout the vast majority of the clash, with their two early goals the thing that set them apart from their opponents.
Although Diego Simeone’s men conceded two within the first 10 minutes of the game, their game plan didn’t change once with the La Liga outfit often having 11 men behind the ball.
They did manage to scrape a couple of goals back against the Reds, but in reality, their first one should have been chalked off as Antoine Griezmann was blocking Alisson’s line of sight.

However, it wasn’t Atletico’s goal that left Ally McCoist rather unimpressed.
Ally McCoist believes Liverpool’s penalty call was “shocking”
One thing that can’t be taken away from the Champions League clash between Liverpool and Atletico is that it was very entertaining.
Both sides put up a good fight, with Simeone and Arne Slot’s methods being polar opposites of one another.
Indeed, the fact that Mohamed Salah was back to his best was also a massive help.
However, towards the end of the first half, Liverpool felt like they had a penalty call after Clement Lenglet looked to have handled the ball in the box, but after a VAR review, it was overturned.
And, to McCoist, this was the right call, with the Scotsman even dubbing the initial call “shocking.”
“Absolute nonsense, just get on with the game, that is shocking,” he said while live on TNT Sports.
Liverpool just about scraped past Atletico Madrid on Wednesday evening
Although Alexander Isak’s debut was one of the main talking points from the game, it’s clear that Liverpool still have some work to do.
Of course, they’ve won all four of their Premier League games so far, and they’ve now won their first Champions League game, but it still feels like improvements can be made.
The summer transfer window was one that was full of change, which completely turned the Reds’ team upside down.
Last term, they were arguably one of the oldest teams in the Premier League; however, after the summer transfer window, they now have some of the youngest starters in the top flight.

Players such as Milos Kerkez are still just 21 years old and have plenty to learn, but with the way things have panned out thus far, it feels like they need to start gelling a lot quicker than they currently are.
Otherwise, they could end up losing games they don’t deserve to.
