Milos Kerkez could reach another level at Liverpool after what Florian Wirtz did for Germany

Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz have both had a hard time of it since joining Liverpool.

The duo were brought in to improve the Reds’ ranks and, while on paper they’re both clear improvements, their performances thus far have shown otherwise.

Both players have started each Premier League game that Liverpool have been a part of this season, with both getting taken off before the full-time whistle was blown.

And, even though September’s international break was expected to throw another spanner into the works, it may have actually ended up helping Arne Slot discover a new way to use Wirtz and Kerkez.

Florian Wirtz must be allowed to drop deeper on the left-hand side to allow Milos Kerkez to push forward

Over the last week or so, international teams have faced one another across the globe, with Wirtz managing to lead his country to an impressive 3-1 win, as he even bagged an impressive free-kick.

And, even though he started in attacking midfield, Wirtz’s heatmap shows that he drifted deep into his own half for most of the clash.

This comes as per Sofascore, and outlines that the German was one of the best players on the pitch for Germany despite not being used as an attacking midfielder.

In fact, it was left-back David Raum who earned the man of the match award from Sofascore, which shows that, if Liverpool can replicate this position for Wirtz in their starting XI, it could bring out the best in both Wirtz and Kerkez.

This is because if Wirtz is drifting towards the Reds’ left-back, it gives Kerkez some cover to bomb forward and get a ball into the box or even net one of his own.

Indeed, it’s still early days and there’s still plenty of time for the young German to find his mojo, but on the face of things, this looks like a rather smart way to get the most out of both players.

Liverpool need to ensure that Florian Wirtz is on top form upon his return

Now that Liverpool have signed Alexander Isak, there’s more or less no excuse for them not to come away with the Premier League title this season.

They managed to buy one of the best strikers in the league for a fee worth around £125million, and, while he may not have played as much as he wanted while away on international duty, after a couple of games and training sessions with Slot, he should be in top condition.

Wirtz will have a key part to play in Liverpool’s fortunes this season, with the German likely to be seen as Liverpool’s creative spark once Mohamed Salah goes to AFCON.

Of course, others such as Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister will also be called upon, but since Wirtz contributed to over 30 goals last term, all eyes will be on him.

At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen, but with the way things have panned out thus far, as long as Wirtz continues going in this upward spiral of form, everything should be on track.

And, if he can manage to do this, it could also bring the best out in Kerkez, which, at the end of the day, is all that Liverpool’s fans want from their players.
