Former Chelsea player made a prediction about Liverpool’s Alexander Isak in 2022 which actually came true

Alexander Isak’s transfer to Liverpool was the story that dominated most of the window.

At times, it may have felt like Newcastle were going to stick to their guns and ask for £150million for their star man, but in the end, the situation became untenable.

This resulted in Liverpool and the Magpies agreeing to a fee worth around £125million for the Sweden international after a summer of back-and-forth talks.

And, even though it’s now the international break and the Reds’ fans will have to wait a while before they see their new number nine playing for them, the fact he’s even joined is exciting.

Jason Cundy predicted that Alexander Isak would be worth £100million one day

Before Isak became a Newcastle player, he plied his trade for La Liga outfit Real Sociedad.

The striker didn’t have the best goal-scoring record during his time in Spain, but that didn’t stop the Magpies from spending £60million+ to acquire his services.

And, while live on talkSPORT back in 2022, former Chelsea player Jason Cundy gave his thoughts on the transfer of Isak to Newcastle and even made a claim that has actually come true.

“He’s still got a bit of growing to do; there’s still going to be that expectancy to put a bit of bulk on his upper body,” he said.

“He’s so quick, you saw his footwork tonight. This kid could be as good as he wants to be. I genuinely believe that.

“He had a bit of a strange season last year at Sociedad. There were a lot of teams sniffing around him after the Euros last year.

“That’s where he really did catch the eye. I’ve followed his career, and he had a bad season last year. His numbers weren’t great, but he will be a sound investment.

“We saw last night what this kid is capable of. Newcastle have got a really good player. There will be bids coming in.

“I think in years to come he will be worth £100m.”

Alexander Isak is set to lead Liverpool’s attack for years to come

Even though Liverpool may have spent £125million to prise Isak away from St James’ Park, it’s hard to see how he won’t be an instant hit.

Last season, the striker scored over 20 goals across all competitions and was arguably one of the best strikers in the world.

Indeed, the Reds have also added Hugo Ekitike to their ranks this season, but with a player of Isak’s quality now part of the team, it’s unclear how the young Frenchman’s playing time will be affected.

However, if Arne Slot can find a way to include both strikers in his team regularly, it’s hard to see how they won’t easily walk away with the Premier League title this term.

In addition to the top-flight title, now that Liverpool have plenty of quality among their first-team squad, they’ll be able to rotate their players more and give them all much-needed rest.

At the moment, these are all just the way we think things are going to pan out, but after the international break is over, that’ll be the real test and when fans can actually start to get excited.
