Jamie O’Hara left stunned by Alexander Isak claim after his £125m transfer to Liverpool

Alexander Isak finally got his dream move after a £125million fee was agreed for his transfer by Liverpool and Newcastle.

Throughout most of the summer transfer window, it was more than clear that the Sweden international only had eyes for a move to Anfield.

Despite the Magpies wanting him to stick around and lead them through their 2025-26 Champions League campaign, he decided that his career would be best served elsewhere.

Indeed, Hugo Ekitike was also brought in this summer, and due to the solid form he’s found himself in at the start of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign, it’ll likely be hard for Isak to take his place straight away.

However, the fact that Liverpool now have two world-class number nines available to lead their attacking line shows that they mean business this term.

Jamie O’Hara left stunned by Jason Cundy’s “legend” claim about Alexander Isak

As mentioned, Isak’s transfer saga has dominated most of the headlines this summer.

The fact that he refused to train or even play for Newcastle this summer shows how serious he was about forcing his way out of St James’ Park this term.

Many expected Newcastle to stick firmly to their price tag of £150million, but in the end, both teams met in the middle.

And, while live on talkSPORT, Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy were discussing Isak’s transfer, with O’Hara being left rather perplexed by a claim that Cundy made.

“If the first time that they’ve won a trophy is it since 1959 or 1969, whatever it is, and he [Isak] is absolutely integral to win that trophy, [he’s a] legend,” Cundy said.

“Let me ask you this, out of this team, who is a Newcastle legend? I guarantee he won’t be bigger than Isak [to help win the Carabao Cup.]

Jamie O’Hara then replied with: “Bruno Guimaraes.” Cundy instantly hit back with “Not bigger than Isak.”

This then left O’Hara stunned as he simply replied: “What, you’re winding me up!”

Alexander Isak can become a legend at Liverpool instead

Even though the way that Isak left Newcastle wasn’t the most admirable, that doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t be able to explore the opportunity of a transfer.

Indeed, there were certainly better ways for him to go about it, but if a club wanted to sell one of their players, they often don’t consult them about whether or not they’d be up for it.

If Isak had left Newcastle without kicking up as much of a fuss, there’s no denying that most of the Magpies’ fanbase would see him as a legend.

However, since that’s now gone out of the window, it’s time for him to become one at Liverpool instead.

The striker is still just 25 years old, and since he’s signed a long-term deal to keep him at Anfield during his prime years, there’s every chance that he could become a legend in the eyes of fans.

At the moment, it’s unclear whether this move will end up working out for Isak or not, but judging by his numbers from last season, it’s hard to see how it won’t have been a more than solid purchase from the Reds.
